The Drink of the Day is very exciting to me...

But the fact they make you pay Disney a la cartel pricing still makes it seem self serving, doesn’t it?

270 is a little more “pronounced”...but DCL would do well to try and incorporate a space like that.

I say this all the time...but other than the movie theater, Disney ships from a facility perspective are really boring to me.

The “aqua duck” isn’t exhilarating ride for anyone other than a 2 year old either.

I hope these new ships up the game
The Dream and Fantasy were designed before we had this explosion of new facilities for active teens and adults. If I recall correctly, FreedomOTS was RCL’s flagship in 2007 and all it had was Flowrider. I expect the new ships will have a lot more diversity of premium restaurants and facilities/activities for active people.

Eh, DotD is, I believe, the best deal on the ship. ~$6.

I find the entire ship/entertainment/staff to be 100% Disney-expected-quality, and well worth the up-charge. The nightlife areas are well themed, the kids areas/counselors are great and the pools/aquaduck and aquadunk are fun. I enjoyed the teen area when I was of the age (now they are even better).

It's a floating hotel that takes you to a new island each day...yet, I think the days at sea are the best. So I must enjoy the offerings.

I am sure the lines are enormous on the other ships for their wave pools, zip lines, slide, etc. I don't need/want a casino, so I'd guess DCL competes very well with competitor's other offerings.

**I AM BIASED**

You are...

I find neither the quality of staff nor the service to be any better than the competitors for significantly less

Except may the kids clubs...which of course you don’t need for long

Compared to the Dream class, it looks like they cleared the rooms on the stern side of deck 5 and converted them to suites on the bow section of deck 11 and 13. These ships I believe are one deck higher on both the bow and stern side. Thus leaving deck 5 100% for public space, but they also need to relocate the spa.

Ok...based on what?
Based on 16 DCL cruises in comparison with multiple NCL, RCCL, Princess, and HAL cruises.

There is NO way anyone could reasonably believe that the service and staff on DCL are the same quality level as NCL or Carnival.

P.S. -- Let me add, it is NOT unreasonable to believe that DCL is so overpriced that it's not worth the price, even with the superior service. That's a fair conversation to have. But claiming that DCL staff and service are comparable to NCL or Carnival is not reasonable. (RCCL is definitely a step above those two, but still well short of DCL, IMO)

Ahhh...I see.

I said “competitors”...which based on price are royal, celebrity, Princess, etc.

They all can be had cheaper as well.

I wasn’t going carnival...that’s funny. Norwegian ain’t great...but it’s making some headway.

I'm glad they are modifying the atrium staircase. It always bugged me that the staircase only went up to the second floor, despite the 3 floor atrium.

Although gorgeous I think I'll prefer ship 6 or 7's atrium over this one. Much like how I prefer the Dream's over the Fantasy's. It's a bit too feminine for my tastes.

Disney’s?

Boy I hope so...it may make them more attractive to me.

My wife says that what Disney does effortlessly at hotels in Orlando...Royal does in cruises.

Neither are perfect...but they are in their niches.

Disney’s onboard offerings...other than IP laden kids clubs and character lines...are way behind some of the other lines now (NOT carnival).

Disney ships are almost “sedentary”...not a lot of activity at all. True story...I overheard a VIP passenger 5 years ago ask her personal guide if the ship had a list of activities as on other ships that the Dream did not have...you would recognize her spinning letters on tv if you saw her 😉

Disney needs to embrace more specialty dining options as well. Palo and Remy ain’t cutting it anymore...

And the itineraries and Ports could use a kick in the can too. I assume Lighthouse Point is more necessity than choice on their part.

...other than that and the aqua duck being lame...everything is great 👍🏻

I wonder who will be the Lobby Statue for the Wish? Jiminy Cricket is my guess.

Magic - Mickey
Wonder - Ariel
Dream - Donald
Fantasy - Minnie
Wish - ???

Ok, so please believe me when I say this is an honest question. I'm not trying to be a jerk, even if the question sounds that way. I'm just honestly curious. This forum is generally for people who are, presumably, DCL fans. You don't seem to particularly like DCL. So what keeps bringing you back to the forum? Why come here to tell people who love DCL how lame it is?

I don’t comment on DCL much. It was in the news because of the name.

You can be rid of me now.

But to be fair - I don’t see how it has to be pumping the tires and ignoring the competition? One thing that is consistent is that DCL, DVC, WDW patrons (and I’ve made all those things my “slow jam” for decades) don’t need to be told they’re RIGHT by strangers...they are already sure of it 😎

Not trying to be a jerk...but I think you know what I’m talking about.

I think that competition is vital to ensure that future Disney ships are better than today. If the competition has better or more compelling offerings, then DCL will use that to improve.

Hell, I like the improvements to the Magic/Wonder dinning over the Fantasy/Dream. The Enchanted Garden (no IP, tables don't rotate) isn't very immersive compared to the new Tiana/Rapunzel restaurants.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

Totally understandable.

Honestly not trying to shoo you away. Just curious.

Honestly, I don't think we do that here. The forum has been pretty slow for a while now, but back when there were lots of people checking us out, we had a lot of conversations about "Is DCL really worth it?" and we still a few people who hang out here who will tell you that they prefer Celebrity for a more adult experience for a lower price. And most of us totally get that perspective, even though we're DCL addicts.

One thing that is consistent is that DCL, DVC, WDW patrons (and I’ve made all those things my “slow jam” for decades) don’t need to be told they’re RIGHT by strangers...they are already sure of it 😎

I'm not sure that I do. I'm sorry, but I have no idea what it means for DCL, etc to be your slow jam. I'm so old! :( I do understand that there are people who think that Disney is the best at everything and will never say that they did something wrong. But I don't think you'll find too many of those people here.

Except nobody said anything about carnival or Norwegian.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. You said

I find neither the quality of staff nor the service to be any better than the competitors for significantly less

Carnival and Norwegian are competitors who charge significantly less than DCL for their services. And those are often the cruise lines that are being discussed when addressing this subject. I was responding to a very typical objection and one that I genuinely thought you were making. So I was not employing a "tactic". I was trying to address what I thought you were saying.

RCCL and Princess are less, but not always significantly less. But if you want to talk about them, we can. In my experience, DCL's service level is significantly better than Royal Caribbean and somewhat better than Princess. And that doesn't even mean that RCCL's service is bad. It's not bad. It's pretty good, usually. But it's still miles behind DCL. My experience with Princess was that their customer service was above average. Not as good as DCL, but very good.
