Currently planning to do a RunDisney in two years.. Hoping I can save up enough money to really enjoy myself. And not eat that last donut at work these days....

I know those days...

We will be looking for you in two years. *thumbs up*

Exactly. I too remember the vouchers....it is a pre race tradition of mine to lay out my bib and running clothes for an Instagram picture prior to race start.

The Wine & Dine had always been the best "deal" for me....registration included the $15 voucher, drink voucher, Epcot AfterParty, and in the early years a "1Day 1 Park Ticket." Remember that?? The Tower and Everest races also included 1Day 1 Park tickets in the early years.

Wine & Dine never included a park ticket.

I am coming down for my 2nd Run Disney event. I have my in-laws coming to assist with the children and watch my whole family run the 5k. They have stated they would like to watch us cross the finish line at the 5k. I have two questions. First I cannot recall if they must get a cheersquad ticket to watch the end of the race. Cant they just catch the bus from the resort and see us finish the race w/o paying? This leads me to my 2nd question. Do the race buses stop at a certain point? We will be in a later wave due to running with the kids, and will not start off till a lot later than 6. Was thinking they could sleep in and catch the bus and be there around start time? I know the rundisney site states you need to be on the bus by 430 to make the race, but does this mean the buses stop running?

Good questions.

I believe if you want to be in the stands at the finish line, you need to be in the cheer squad. But there are folks behind the barricades along the finish line, also.

As far as the buses, I believe they stop running. My event guide for the SW 5k in April showed the buses running from 4am to 5:30 and again from 7:00 am to 9:00. Most of the buses aren't Disney Transportation, but charters. This most likely is to keep transportation off the roads during the actual races.

Thanks for the information. I don't think they want to sit in the stands for 45 dollars. Does anyone know for my children that are running the 5k with me, since I am their guardian, does my ID work for picking up the packets for my kids? or do they need to get some type of ID

You registered them for the race, correct? A parent or guardian will need to sign their waiver form. Just make sure that the person who registered them, signs the waiver and will be the one picking up their packets, because that person will most likely be the one to show ID.

There is a reserved section but you don't need a ticket to see the finish.

The buses won't stop running during the 5K. The runDisney guide only states that time to make sure runners get to the start on time. But the problem is that the buses priority is to get runners back to the resorts so the service after start may be limited. It really is best to go early with you. There should be entertainment and concessions for spectators.

So the 5:30 to 7:00 time gap listed in the guide isn't really a gap, the buses are still running? That's nice to know.

@Texas84, I've got a question, since this is my first W&D. I'm staying at Boardwalk. I know Disney doesn't allow runners to walk from their Epcot resort to the Epcot starting point (wish they did...be a nice warm-up for the half). But do you know of any problem with runners walking back to their resort, if the race ends in Epcot? I know the W&D 5k is in AK...I was thinking more about the 10k the next day, unless the route is the same as other 10ks and ends up at ESPN. I don't like standing around waiting for the bus after finishing the race; would rather grab some water/Powerade, get my banana and use the walk back to the resort to cool down...and stretch.

Thanks!

You can walk back if the park is open. Either finish really slow or wait around. Otherwise you will need to bus back.

I'm with you- i prefer the walk back (which you could do when the afterparty was immediately post race!)

You don't need a chEAR squad ticket for the 5k. Pretty sure they only sell them for the half/full distances. (I only see Sunday currently for sale) And even for the events that they do offer chEAR squad for, you can stand just before the finish and still see the runners without being in the bleachers. And in all honesty, I've finished some of the 5k/10k pretty darn close to the front of the pack and don't recall more than a handful of people being there cheering.

However, since you've posted this in the W&D thread, I assume you know that a) The 5k is at AK and b) starts at 6:30.

So the 5:30 to 7:00 time gap listed in the guide isn't really a gap, the buses are still running? That's nice to know.

I've always been under the impression the buses actually stop during that time. runDisney doesn't want to chance people pushing it a bit, and sleeping in an extra 30 mins and then complaining that the bus they got on didn't get them to the start on time. I don't recall seeing buses continue to pull into the unload area once the runners started moving to the queue area. But the guide does indicate that the buses run straight through for the 5k for this race, unlike the ones at Epcot.

However, at the same time the WDW transportation buses will start running about 6:30 anyways. At that time of day they are closer to 30+ mins apart I've found, so it may not be the best thing to rely on.

While sleeping in is nice, it would kinda stink for them to get up, and be on a bus stuck somewhere when you guys finish. Personally I'd either go all in and head over early, or just sleep in completely and not bother.

They won't make early finishers wait an hour for a bus. :)

Inbound service will be impacted during that time gap because the buses are all sitting at the finish.

Ok, bear with me as this upcoming event will be my first RunDisney event. On the Thursday (Nov 3rd) my wife and I where hoping to hit DHS's till noon then swing by ESPN Sports complex to pick up our packets and then run over for a few hours at AK since we are staying at AKL. Waiting this late to get our stuff (we are doing the 5K) will we be fine or are the pickups pretty packed? I have no clue what to expect.

TIA

Thursday afternoon is a good time to go. It gets bad at opening morning for merchandise hunters and Friday afternoon can get busy when people get off work. The whole process is very efficient. You'll want to check out the expo. It's fun.

Awesome, I figured an hour at minimum to get thru there but can easily spend some more time there.

Just leave your credit card at home. There's lots of merchandise - not just Disney - that will tempt you. As @Texas84 said, Thursday afternoon is a good time. It won't take you much time to pick up your packet, bib and race shirt. Just make sure to have printed out and signed your waiver form before you arrive at WDW. The waivers are available about 30 days before race weekend, along with a PDF of the race guide. runDisney will send you an email with a link to the waiver. You can print out your waiver at packet pickup, but that just slows things down.

Good luck in your first runDisney event! I'll be running the 5k too, along with the 10k and half. I'm a glutton for punishment. ;)

Are you driving? WWoS parking can be a bit of hike but with your plan it might be best if you want more AK time. The runDisney bus service can be sporadic with the charters.

Yes I will be driving so my hope was it would make life easier with transportation.

Thanks for all the info!
