Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon

That Yzma is on point. That said, I'm slightly tempted to upgrade my virtual half into the challenge for the other 2. That price though, I can't stomach that price.
Tried doing just that, but their is no option to upgrade. Even the virtual marathon weekend has the “switch categories” option.

Also, yeah that price is very hard to stomach. You can buy the half individually though.

I’ve always liked the more classic designs with a little silver or gold to them, so really like the 5k. I’m okay with the others (was never much into Nightmare Before Christmas or Emperor’s New Groove; but am happy for those that do love those films that they are getting a medal for characters they enjoy! Heck, I was the one thrilled for a Three Cabelleros medal in 2019 when everyone else seems to want to replace them in the parks with Coco, haha), but would really prefer that they get back to the food and wine theme for the Wine and Dine or, if not, just rebrand it to Halloween if that’s the direction they’re going moving forward.
Oh yeah, I’m totally in agreement with you! I think I said it before in this thread, but the OG medal design is still my favorite- classic, clean, and has a cool Spaceship Earth design with light F&W elements. I know they’re probably trying to find a wider audience with the villains, and I can’t fault them for that, but this race weekend has certainly endured an identity crisis over the years. F&W? Christmas? Halloween? Travel? Who knows anymore! 😂

Not sure if I’ll do it but, I asked runDisney if I can upgrade my 10K to a two-course challenge. Will update the thread what they tell me.

They were able to help me for Star Wars.

EDIT: Virtual options.

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
Looks like red glitter. Tempted to maybe upgrade.
Yep, according to the description of the replica medal pin in the products page, it’s “glitter fill.” Looks like it’ll be able to be shaken around as the glitter looks like it’s shifted around between the two photos on the post:

Also, the 10k is apparently glow-in-the-dark:

So right now, I haven’t heard anything back from runDisney about upgrading my virtual 10K to a virtual two-course challenge. This leaves me with three options:

1.) Just buy the half individually, on top of my 10K and not get the challenge.

2.) Forget about the half entirely and get the 5K for marathon weekend.

3.) Just wait for Princess.

Leaning toward option #1 (as much as I want the challenge). Though I guess getting a Pluto medal isn’t the worst thing. The Yzma medal though is probably more unique.

And the Halloween theme happened while AK was Christmas decorated and the Christmas theme happened over Halloween weekend once before. Insanity!!!

Does anyone think there is any real possibility of Disney cancelling this race in person? I realize they are surely sick and tired of cancelling and never imagined that we would have another major surge to deal with. I feel the same and never would have signed up if I could imagine this insanity happening yet again. However, their original reasons for cancelling were always about medical staffing. I can't believe that there are any medical folks willing to take on a Disney race right now. Anybody with far more knowledge and insight than myself care to comment or share thoughts? Thank you!

I’m doubtful they would cancel at this point (barring something even more unexpected than the recent surge) but could see them doing more corrals and maybe more staggered starts and such. Unless the trajectory goes crazy, I think the medical facilities are more prepared, they have refined treatment methods some, and the severity of a large amount of cases is much less when it comes to those who test positive but are either vaccinated or have already had it before. According to the stats on worldometer.com, cases have obviously skyrocketed, but, while deaths have increased, they haven’t increased anywhere close to the same rate.

It’s all pretty speculative at this point, but I think there are comparatively less unknowns for medical personnel than last year and less likelihood the hospitals will be overwhelmed again, so I’m cautiously optimistic. And I think Disney is more comfortable with people congregating outside while targeting masking indoors (as exhibited by their recent modification of their masking policy to not require them in outdoor queues).

Unfortunately, hospitals in Florida are becoming overwhelmed right now....and we haven't hit the peak of the Delta surge. About 55% of the ICU beds are COVID patients and majority of them are unvaccinated - 95% or higher. Both hospitals in my town are seeing hospitalization rates that are the highest since the pandemic began 18 months ago. And South Florida is again the epicenter of the state. ☹️

September is going to be bad in Florida, partially driven by schools - you've got some counties where thousands of students are in quarantine.

Let's hope by the first of October we've got Delta under control. But I wouldn't be surprised if I got an email from runDisney. Sad, but not surprised.

I'd say there is the chance, but they would rather try not to. I'm seeing most of the races I'm looking at over the new few months are sticking the course, but they aren't in FL.

Is there an issue with asking for vax proof/negative test?

I don't see how/why they would cancel this when they let anyone walk around shoulder to shoulder in the parks during the day? (I've also never been to one of these events so idk the procedure)

Florida statute now prohibits businesses doing so.

I feel if Disney called their bluff and just did it anyway for safety Florida would be hard pressed to do anything about it. Disney seems to be keeping the state alive in terms of funding through taxes from tourism, so it could be a "bite the hand that feeds" situation.

I personally would feel much safer at the event if this was the case.

They could ask runners to wear masks while in corrals.
Spectators they could either limit where they stand or they too could be asked to wear masks along the race route.
