Disney wants to invest $1 billion at Disneyland

So is the Marvel area still a mini land or its own thing?

Until it's announced (and even after as we saw with New Fantasyland) nothing is set in stone. But according to the update, it would seem the area in back of Cars Land and the Pier would be a dedicated Marvel land.

Also, although initially put off by the idea, I really like the thought of a good chunk of Star Wars Land being inside a giant building. Given that a good portion of it is set in space, they could really do a great job of immersing guests through creative use of windows and backdrops to really give the illusion of being out there in space.

Of course, would be great to see some other environments as well that utilize real sky. Hopefully they keep a lot of those trees behind Big Thunder for an Endor-like destination!!!

Big (or at least one of many) question for me is -- what happens to Star Tours? Does it get relocated or go away completely? Can't imagine they'd simply leave it there in the front of the park disjointed from the rest of it.

Am I looking at the pics correctly, is Toontown NOT in the red Star Wars Land area on the map? Is it just an oversight by the MA folks or did plans change or am I reading the map wrong?

When you read the text, Star Wars Land still takes over Toontown. The map is just showing land that currently is rarely or never used by park visitors that will become part of Star Wars Land.

Bit odd. I'm ind of curious as to how they'll integrate it into Hollywoodland or the park as a whole whichever it may be. When this rumor started I think most sources were saying something along the lines of "marvel Studios" would be implemented which is ok, but kind of lazy to be honest. I could see it maybe being something related to S.H.E.I.L.D especially with Agent Carter taking place in Hollywood this season.

Based on the report, doesn't seem like it will integrate with Hollywoodland as there's more than enough land in back of Cars Land and ToT (sorry I said Paradise Pier earlier, I was wrong) to accommodate a pretty large expansion. I think this is better as ToT wouldn't really have a proper home if Hollywoodland became Marvel. The bigger question, obviously, is how does Marvel tie into a park about Hollywood as you indicated.

Marvel is easy to incorporate into California Adventure in my opinion. It'll take on a "Silicon Valley" type environment with Tony Stark and his tech leading the way.

Could someone explain to me why it makes sense to bulldoze TT to build Star Wars land? Wouldn't it make more sense to simply utilize more of the land backstage or take over where Autopia sits as well as a smaller parcel of backstage land?

The main question I am trying to get answered is wouldn't it give the park more guest space, and more attractions to build further into backstage or utilize the land Autopia sits on rather than replacing one land with another? Also I'm a tad confused on how the continuity of Star Wars will make sense displaced from Tomorrowland sitting all the way back by Small World/TT.

I'm not all too familiar with the backstage layout of DL so an explanation would be much appreciated. :)

Toon Town isn't that popular

I feel like there's enough room to retain Toontown and have Star Wars Land. If Disney in their ultimate wisdom (...) feel Toontown should be destroyed just like the villains wanted in the movie, then whatever. I personally feel it has its merits, such as the Roger Rabbit ride and the meet-and-greets. It just needs a fresh coat of paint, some shade and next-gen firework projections that don't cause it to close.

Sounds great! I hope this gets a D23 announcement and a 2017-18 release. Both sound like Disney is actually trying to meet the recent Uni standards of innovation in rides. My theories on both: Star Wars Land will feature multiple planets, and they will be indoors to seperate each one and make them super immersive, similar to Diagon Alley immersion. Marvel Land will be Stark Expo themed, as that would tie into California's rich history in innovative technology, and can tie into Stark Expo from Iron Man 2, which takes place in Malibu.

The only thing of subsistence we would really lose is Roger Rabbit. While very sad, it at least lives on in Tokyo. Seriously though, this makes me want to go to DLR again. My favorite theme park resort I've ever been to!

My guess is that for them to fully realize their vision for SW, the land needed to be used. And ultimately, it will likely be much more profitable for them if used to support SW versus a land that is arguably the least popular in the park.

I'm sure it'll be fantastic, but having a single IP become a land in Disneyland almost seems sacrilegious to me.
That really is the question. I don't think having Star Wars IP is at all an issue...maybe the scale is. That being said, they are putting it in an area that will be at the far reaches of the park and likely be very non-intrusive to the rest of the park. My guess is that if you were visiting the vast majority of the park, you really wouldn't have a clue "visually" that SW land is back there...assuming they "hide" it to some extent. I could easily see them using the Big Thunder ranch area as a transition themed to the forest moon of endor. Of course, this isn't the first land dedicated to a single IP, Cars Land did that already, but it is as you say the first in Disneyland.

And don't forget those fabulous views everyone will have of the back of TOT.

The map has been fixed to include ToonTown. The site is down currently though.

Well, it will be the first IP-based land at a Magic Kingdom style park. Well, technically second, because of TSPL in Honk Kong. The first stateside one though.

The site is back up. They are likely dealing with a lot of traffic today. And you are right, the map has been fixed to include Mickey's Toontown.

So are you saying the Best Western Park Place Inn isn't very good? I'm actually planning to stay there for my upcoming trip in August.

My wife and I stayed there a few years ago and loved it. Rooms weren't elaborate by any means, but it was a place to sleep for us. You couldn't beat the walk to the park and we felt safe- that was more important to us. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Wow, this is really exciting! But, like others have noted, having Star Wars in the back behind Big Thunder and IASW does seem odd and really messes with the hub and spoke design of the park. Then again, if you look at a map of DL, Toontown and New Orleans Square kind of already messed with that design already. Excited to see big changes coming!
