This is what they mean by new hardware. They do not mean to say they're dropping out of the buisness. Hardware does not necessarily mean a new system.
Fraid my interpretation was more accurate than you want to admit. They specifically say that with Multi-million companies entering and backing systems they may have no alternative but to dedicate to games only. GC may not be the last, but they did say that there desire is to no longer to try and keep making new game systems unless they can offer a major improvement and overall more fun to the system gaming experience. They feel that games are their strong point and it is getting tougher to compete with companies who can afford to spend major money and still lose profit it their product flopped. Nintendo has to succeed if they come out with a new system, look at Dreamcast. To Sega and Nintendo, systems and games are vital income.
