Very sad :( He was a great actor and singer. I remember him saying that he was sick but he was on the mend and couldn't wait to start the new series.

I had the pleasure of sharing a flight to Orlando, while we were going to WDW, with Mr. O. He was a tall and stately gentlemen who did not shy away from admirers. He was gracious enough to have his picture taken with several people while we waited an hour for a flight. My mother also met him years ago when he played in The Fantastics. What a shame to lose a great entertainer.

Saying he is just a voice tallent is an understatement, he had a huge theater career before his TV shows and movies. He will be missed.

"Come on along and listen to... the Lullaby of Broadway!"

I will miss him as the original lead actor in 42nd Street. Jerry Orbach was and is truly a legend that will live on forever on TV, on Broadway, and as Lumiere.

Here's a spooky coincidence. The Disney Daily Calendar where you rip off a page for each day has Lumiere on the page for tomorrow, December 31, 2004. It shows a frame of Lumiere from Beauty & the Beast and the quote is:

"You fall in love with her, she falls in love with you, and poof! The spell is broken! We'll be human again by midnight."

So sad that he has passed on.

Again showing my age, I saw him in both "Promises, Promises" and "Company" on Broadway when I was a teenager in New York. He also originated the Narrator role in The Fantastiks, which began Off-Broadway and went on to become the longest running show of all time. Teh signature song from that play was "Try to Remember" and he sang it. And he was the original Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of "Chicago."

I was particularly upset that none of the biographies I read in the papers and online mentioned his role as Lumiere, which would have helped millions of American kids of all ages to make the connection between him and the Disney classic.

He will be missed.

Thats sad, I always enjoyed his role on Law and Order, didn't know about his voice in Beauty and the Beast.
I had heard that he was also getting ready to do another tv show, it was at least in the staging process, he's also done movies as well as broadway too.

He actually filmed several episodes of the new Law & Order Series - "Trial by Jury". He had a small recurring role continuing as Lenny BRiscoe, working as an investigator in the district attorney's (I think) office. The show premieres soon on NBC and the episodes he appeared in will air.

I heard six episodes were already filmed, to air beginning in March.

All of the obits I saw had him listed as the voice of Lumiere.
I think he only is in 3 of the 6 episodes that have been filmed.
