Disney Visa Card

This probably isn't the right forum, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see where it landed. I'm considering getting this card, but I have a question. Exactly what credit range is this thing aimed at? By that I mean, exactly how "low" of a score will they consider? I don't have perfect credit but my score is pretty good, but I don't want to get hit with a hard inquiry by trying for this card if it's meant for a better range. Any insight that anyone can give? We really want it for the rewards of usage(pay off at end of month) and the zero-financing on Disney trips. Thanks guys!

It only works well if you pay it off every month. It has a higher interest charge than most cards, so if you run a balance, what you might make in Disney dollars is actually less than the interest charge. We just use it to get the 10% off perk at certain stores.

Discover likes to remind us that we are 'loyal' customers since the the early nineties... yet they really didn't give any value for that loyalty.

After putting literally hundreds of thousands of dollars through my Discover card over the last 14 years I finally stopped using it this past month. I could be on time payment for 3 years straight.. and one time be one day late and they would jack their interest rates to stupid penalty levels. Their interest rates were never the best, but normally it's not an issue because I don't carry balances. But their insistence of penalty rates and having to call them to have them change it back to the normal rate. I've gotten fed up with their jacking of rates, and even their default rate is basically awful.

So after basically 20 years of loyalty with discover as our primary card.. I'm using a BoA rewards card as the primary now and have no charges going against my discover card. Tired of their nip at your heals every chance they get behavior.
Yep. Everything you just said is EXACTLY what we got from Disney Visa. We used to bank exclusively with Chase. Placed a size able auto loan with them many years back. One day late on a payment 6years ago (in the middle of a move, no less) and we've not seen below 22% since. Moved all our banking accounts, paid off that auto loan a year early, and that's it. We typically don't use our Disney Visa. I've had our new cards sitting in a stack of filing crap in the office for months waiting to be activated. No need. We don't use it. I won't close the account, tho. Better on the credit score to let it sit. Empty.

We use ours exclusively for the 0% 6 month financing. Nothing like getting a free 6 month loan these days. The few reward dollars we accumulate, we let our daughter use at the parks when we go. It's pretty easy to get because Chase charges a higher interest rate than any other card. I got mine in 2006 and my credit was good but not awesome at the time. Personally, I don't like trying to purchase items and pay it off at the end of the month just for the rewards. They aren't that beneficial unless you buy a lot of stuff every month.

I know. It's like the DDP to me, I know it may not be the "best" way to use my money and might not really save me anything (might cost me more sometimes) but I like it for other reasons so I will stick with it. My friends know my little Disney addiction and just laugh at my Mickey phone case (kinda odd for a 45 year old guy to have) and now they laugh when I pull out the red Disney credit card......But I am fine with that :)

Hey- but that Disney credit card does at least get you in on discount promotions before they're available to the general public.

For us, we have the premier, it is mindless trip saving. We know we are going to Disney every other year, we pay the full balance off every month and when we go this summer the rewards will pay for the tickets for 4 of us. I know we could get more with other cards but this is easy for us.

True enough, I pay mine off twice a week :)

I tend to do a lot of research into CC's as well as discuss perks with close friends/family. My parents have the Disney Visa and to be honest, I don't believe the % benefits are worth it. I think if you charge more to a different card (e.g. discover it, Jet Blue Amex) you will get more of a benefit. Just my own thoughts, I understand and respect that people -- including my parents -- love to have the Disney card due to their brand loyalty.

Good luck with your decision!

Correct - there is another thread on here in the last year where we discussed this in detail. The Disney visa is not the most valuable, but many Disney folks like it because they don't mind the vendor lock/redeeming issues because they plan on doing Disney anyways.

I actually just got one. Had never really felt the need to have it, but as I was making my room reservation it popped up with the offer of a $200 credit after first purchase. I'm getting a nice little deal on my room with the 30% summer discount and another $200 off my bill on top of that. I saw that you can also get 10% off at certain Disney restaurants with it, although I have no idea which ones or how extensive the list is. If all I ever get from it is the $200 bill credit, it will be worth the 1-2 minutes it took to apply.

I agree with this! We signed up a few years ago when we were offered $200 Reward Dollars. We saw the $50 offer and the $100, but the $200 was the one that sealed the deal. If you can find this offer, go for it.

yup.. a similar 'cash after first X dollars of spending' offer is why i initially got the card as well :) the 6m financing is decent too so you don't have to sort out which offer to use now, etc

One thing to note.. the 6m free financing does not work for all disney charges, only the vacation planning type of spend (hotels, cruise costs, etc). It does not work for incidental charges made at Disney sites. Just a FYI for those out there..
