Disney Visa Card

This probably isn't the right forum, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see where it landed. I'm considering getting this card, but I have a question. Exactly what credit range is this thing aimed at? By that I mean, exactly how "low" of a score will they consider? I don't have perfect credit but my score is pretty good, but I don't want to get hit with a hard inquiry by trying for this card if it's meant for a better range. Any insight that anyone can give? We really want it for the rewards of usage(pay off at end of month) and the zero-financing on Disney trips. Thanks guys!

I have a Disney Visa and love it. I got it right after college so I don't think they require a perfect credit score. I use the Rewards for all my random Disney purchases while I'm on vacation.

I think I might apply for it at the beginning of May, because I have two more things I want to pay off in April so I need to wait until May for my report to update those payoffs.

My credit score is awful. It is so awful once when I was financing a car for one of my daughters the F&I guy told me I don't look like my credit score.
Anyways my credit score is on the upswing and I got one with a 2500 dollar limit last year and my score category is on the high side of "fair" Depending on what report it has been ranging 645-660for about 6 months now.

Lol, that reminds me of when I first tried to get a new car for my wife. When I showed up to do the actual paperwork, the quoted price went from like $350 a month to $485, and that was for a used car that was like 3 years old with 34k miles on it. The worst part is that my mother in law had dropped me off at the dealership so I had to kill an hour at the mall across the street waiting for her to come get me. Needless to say, I didn't respond well to that dealership and I went and picked up a brand new car for $60 less per month. Of course, I have greatly improved my score, but it's still not where I want it to be.

I really want to hurry up and get it to score the rewards to turn back into Disney cards, but I think I'll wait until those next two things are paid off.

Ahhhh...I have paid so much in interest when I have not have cash and had to finance...Unfortunately I have spent 30 years riding the credit score like you ride a roller coaster, up and down...This is the 5th time I have had to work to "repair" it and I swear it will be the last, I am getting tooo old for my finances to cycle so dramatically!
Anyways I maxed it out at Christmas and I have 2 more months to paying it off if the commissions go as planned. Then I am only using it to pay monthly bills and pay the balance off in full every month so I can build up points faster.

I don't know what the rating criteria is but I have 4 Disney Visas now. I just keep applying to get the current promos and they keep approving me. I have 1, the premier card, which has the $49 annual fee that is my primary card to use. I charge everything I can (ATT, Comcast, Car insurance, groceries, travel, gas) and pay it immediately and rack up the reward dollars.

I have a Disney Visa but rarely if ever use it. We got ours the first year they did Disney Visa so our cards say something like: "charter member" and "member since day 1". Honestly, the cool blurbs on front are pretty much the reason we keep the account. LOL! The "rewards" can definitely be beat elsewhere. Like Discover. I get a minimum of 1% but usually more like 5% cash bonuses. Cash. As in, I'm not limited where I can spend it. I can use the bonus dollars towards my balance, direct deposit them into my bank accounts, or use the $$ to shop with online. I bought my 18 yro a new pair of sneakers thru Amazon and paid with my Discover rewards $$. That came in handy! We also have a United Airlines Visa that tends to be better for us, too. Yep, I'll take the sky miles and other travel bonuses. For us it's way more useful. If I use my Disney Visa for anything it's usually to throw a deposit for Disney travel then I pay it back off within a week. Strictly a convenience/buffer thing. Never for their pitiful little rewards. I get soooooo much better elsewhere.

Hey @draybook ! Did you know about the 100% happy with your purchase guarantee on Discover?! Used mine to buy an evening gown ($$$). Got it home & noticed some flaws. Dress shop offered to fix it but then I was displeased with the quality and decided I didn't want the gown. The shop had a no-return policy. So, talked to Discover. Filed claim under their "perk" to cardholders. Took care of documents, sent dress to them, and had a check for the amount I paid for the gown within a month. Very nice! So many cardholders don't even know about this perk!

We need time for things to happen.
Hey Dray -

We have it and we only use it for the perks at WDW: discounts on merchandise and the lounge during the F&WF.
If you can get it and use it occasionally like we do, and pay it off quick it will only improve your credit. For the little perks we use it for it's worth it for us.

Other than that we usually use our Southwest card. Rewards going toward free flights? Yes please.

Exactly this. I'll use it for a discount or any other perk but never really as a card I depend on when traveling, etc.

I got one about 2 months ago. The 1% back in Disney dollars can add up. I use it almost daily everywhere and pay it off twice a week online. I will have about $175 dollars of Disney dollars on it when we go in May. $57 of those are from using it to pay off the trip to Disney on it. I don't carry any balance on any credit cards any more, learned about that the hard way, more than once :0 sadly.

I don't have great great credit (see above) low 700 range, mine was approved for $4500 so it enough to use daily and payoff to build the DDs on. No annual fee, not sure about the interest rate offhand, but since I pay it off weekly it does not matter to me.

I say get one and use t to build up those DDs :)

I have one. I like it, but other cards have better rewards. Still, I use it here and there so I have some mad $ for WDW when we travel.

No doubt 1% is kinda lame but dang if I am not addicted to using it. Every purchase I do the quick math.....$26.50 for gas.....26 cents at Disney baby!! LOL I know how lame that sounds but it's kinda fun. It sure made paying Disney $1000s of dollars this year for our trip at least a little more fun :)

What's crazy...I get better cash back rewards by using sites like ebates and even my own bank has a better cash back hub. Funny...ebates website was recently running a 20% cash back deal through Orbitz and people were using it to buy Disney park tickets. I think even now, it's like 5% cash back ... which is still better than anything for that Disney Visa card.

I know. It's like the DDP to me, I know it may not be the "best" way to use my money and might not really save me anything (might cost me more sometimes) but I like it for other reasons so I will stick with it. My friends know my little Disney addiction and just laugh at my Mickey phone case (kinda odd for a 45 year old guy to have) and now they laugh when I pull out the red Disney credit card......But I am fine with that :)

I <3 Discover.

Discover likes to remind us that we are 'loyal' customers since the the early nineties... yet they really didn't give any value for that loyalty.

After putting literally hundreds of thousands of dollars through my Discover card over the last 14 years I finally stopped using it this past month. I could be on time payment for 3 years straight.. and one time be one day late and they would jack their interest rates to stupid penalty levels. Their interest rates were never the best, but normally it's not an issue because I don't carry balances. But their insistence of penalty rates and having to call them to have them change it back to the normal rate. I've gotten fed up with their jacking of rates, and even their default rate is basically awful.

So after basically 20 years of loyalty with discover as our primary card.. I'm using a BoA rewards card as the primary now and have no charges going against my discover card. Tired of their nip at your heals every chance they get behavior.
