Disney Vacation Account

I decided to open one of these for my Oct Disneyland trip just last night. We have been buying gift cards at Target and it seemed like a great place to consolidate them as we buy them instead of entering them all later when we book the trip or read them off over the phone if I don't do it online. I figure I could be looking at over 20 gift cards. I could not open the account with a gift card, you had to use some kind of credit card or debit card to open it. I choose to do a one time deposit of $50 from my Disney Visa Card, and then was able enter my gift cards after that. Now, I'm waiting to see two things: Will my gift cards count towards the $20 back and how will the deposit be treated by my Disney Visa Card. Will Chase treat it as a withdraw of cash or will they see it as a Disney Purchase gaining me 2% in rewards.

Your gift cards do count towards the $1000 from my experience, we opened our account January 2014 and used for both a summer and Christmas trip in 2014.

I anxiously await the method Chase uses to account for your deposit as this is a possible win-win option in addition to the gift cards.

I was finally able to see it, Chase gave me the 2% on the $50. So If I deposit $1000 from my Chase card, I would get $20 from Disney and $20 from Chase, not bad,4% off. Buying gift cards from Target with your red card can get you 7% off though, 5% off Target purchases and then 2% off in the form of a $20 gift card for every $1000 spent.

Very glad to hear! Any way to save a little goes a long way in the end.

After reading reviews, both here and at disboards, I am looking at doing this for a 2017 trip....I would prefer to have my money in an account there vs trying to take it home and hide it from my wife for a surprise trip.

I'm so glad you mentioned this. We have a vacation account and I was going to try it and see if Chase would give the 2%. I know Target gives the 5% discount, but buying $1000+ in Disney gift cards from Target and loading each one of them on the vacation account seems like a daunting task. :) We use our Disney Visa rewards for ADRs.

Our target carries two varieties of gift card, one in $25 denominations and another that allows the purchasing party to put $50-$500 on the card. We typically use the $500 values, purchase a couple at a time if we need that much.

So I made my first deposit yesterday, then last night got charged again. It seems I misread and now I will turn off the automatic deposit....but where I would normally be frustrated that more money was taken out than intended, I just looked at the charge and thought 'More money towards vacation and a surprise trip'....what is Disney doing to me?!? lol

Just curious if anyone is using the Disney Vacation Account for trip saving? Is this new?
I'm very interested as it seems that if you need the funds for an emergency, you can retrieve the money quickly. I also like that you get a $20 Disney gift card for every $1000 saved.

I think I am going to try it this year. I am going to do gift cards too. Always looking to save a dollar :)
