If you truly are "Disney obsessed", don't go to Universal. Only two outcomes are possible, neither of them are good for you:
  1. You'll hate every moment at Universal, convincing yourself that it lacks the "magic" of WDW.
  2. You'll realize WDW has been turned into a grossly overpriced kiddie park and your Disney dreams will be shattered forever.

We bought our Universal tickets through Destinations in Florida (destinationsinflorida.com) & it included the Mears shuttle. They pick you up at your Disney resort & drop you off right at Universal, so it's pretty convenient!

I have pre-teens and a boyfriend that wants to try it. So I'm out numbered but I'm trying to convert them. Disney forever

You might want to consider splitting up for a day - you stay at Disney and they go to Uni. That way, everyone has a good time.

Cab is easiest, but not cheap. Rental car is next best. Shuttle is cheap. Sometimes Uni runs deals where they'll transport you from Disney for free.

We rented a car at the airport and drove to our hotel, which was just outside of Disney. We then drove to Universal. It's about a 20-25 minute drive or so from the Disney area. I think Universal Studios has transportation that picks up at a Disney Resort Hotel and takes you to Universal; however, the drop-off and pick-up hours/cost may not be agreeable. Renting a car may be your best option.

When you have multiple people, renting a car starts to become a better option price wise than taking a Mears shuttle. You also have the freedom to come and go as you please. Driving to US/IOA could not be easier. Go to I-4, head east toward Orlando and just follow the signs.

If you can find I-4, you can get to nearly every tourist destination in Central Florida with ease.

I used to be a Disney Only person too- once DS was tall enough for the steel coasters and we stayed at the HRH we have become Uni converts. Hotels are leaps and bounds better than ANYTHING Disney has to offer for a lot less and perks of EP and walking distance to both parks cannot be beat. Everything is fresh, clean, and completely immersive. We were just there for 6 days in July and went again this past weekend. Hoping to go back in September! Give it a try- it is a "family" vacation right?:)
