Disney to build onsite employee health center

Orlando Business Journal - December 12, 2007

Disney announced plans Wednesday to build a $6 million health facility on its property for the use of its cast members and their dependents who participate in the company's health plans. The 15,000-square-foot facility will give cast members access to primary care doctors and other medical professionals, as well as a pharmacy, lab, basic radiology and wellness and behavioral health resources. The facility will open in 2009 and will be operated by a health management company to be chosen in the coming months.

The new health center will provide:
  • Longer-than-average visits with health care professionals
  • Convenience through extended operating hours, weekend availability and its close proximity to work-coordinated treatment
More than 40,000 Walt Disney World cast members and dependents are currently eligible for benefits.

Am I the only one that sees this as a not so great move? I don't trust Disney to be ethical when it comes to the health and wellbeing of its CM's... coming from firsthand experience.

The pharmacy sounds like a good idea. The unions have been pushing for this as a way to reduce costs to the cast members and Disney. Hopefully this will reduce the weekly deductions taken out of the castmembers paycheck.

Hmmm

The concept art looks like a bank with only 4 cars???

They will really have hundreds of vehicles and packed triage area like an ER, most likely.

Thats great to hear... Its funny when you hear about how Disney is a bunch of slave drivers to work for and how they treat there employees badly. Evidently they have never worked where i have before...

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me...

Wow

I think it is good, and yes the conspiracy theories about how Disney mistreats its CMs abound.

It is not that bad....also coming from first hand experience.

This piece though is actually something the unions themselves were pushing for.

But I trust Disney with my healthcare more than I trust the Guvment:rolleyes:

It isn't going to be run by Disney, but it is a nice perk for CMs to have a convienient place to go.
Yeah, there aren't that many good places to go in the nearby area. It's pretty much either Celebration Hospital or the hideously priced CentrCares that don't take my insurance.

Eh, it sounds like they are outsourcing, so maybe they will be as ethical as possible. The whole Hippocratic Oath thing, some Doctors stick too it. Wonder if they need a Lab Tech?(rubs hand) For the right money, that would give me one more reason to move Disney way!

Actually Sand Lake Hospital is not that far either. It is fairly decent and part of the ORMC chain, so a bit cheaper than the Florida hospitals(ie Celebration) which can hurt depending on the type of plan you have.

My Doctor was a physician associated with them and was wonderful.

I've been in their ER a few times.

It depends on when you went also. Several years ago, it was too small and they went through an expansion and construction phase maybe 3 years ago. It was really bad if you went during that period.
