Disney to Build Onsite Employee Health Center

Wonders of Life, my sources say.

Is that a serious response. (I know that mine was a bit sarcastic), because that would be interesting. The access would have to be reworked due to the driving and the guard locations. Perhaps a new roadway access would be built.

I've been in their ER a few times.

It depends on when you went also. Several years ago, it was too small and they went through an expansion and construction phase maybe 3 years ago. It was really bad if you went during that period.

It was August of this year

Wow, I've been in Texas the last few years so I haven't had to go there.

I did have a couple of long stays, but I can be pretty tolerant of the wait. My only real thought is that they are cheaper than Florida Hospitals and Disney insurance pays a bigger chunk of their bills.

A few thoughts in the whole process as I read.

First, what a grand idea, it's quite a haul to get off campus.

Second, what took them so long?

Third, for guests too, or exclusive to CMs only.

Fourth, I hope it keeps up with itself.

Fifth, will they be an "all treatment" center, or just like a family Dr. or Urgent Care? Will they offer OB/GYN? Will they offer X-Ray/ERish whatnots, or just send you on to the next stop. Guess I could read the article, but I figure my time would be much better spent typing the questions out that I could easily have access to than punching on button on my mouse.

Sixth, will they have "Character Care" like Character Dining? Where Goofy comes in and gives you a "mock" checkup before the actual Dr. comes in?

Seventh, will they also take insurance for CMs that are covered by a spouse? Or will it be like a "University Clinic" where they don't take any insurance and just offer really low rates? Again, reading would probably give me the answer I seek....Um...I can't click the article... er... I don't have a computer.....

It's going to be built on an Epcot backstage parking lot. Nothing will have to be torn down to build it.

It's also only for full-time cast members.

That makes sense, but don't they offer health care to CRs now as well? I was under the impression a couple of years ago that the CRs now have union representation and this was one of the perks that was added.

I discussed this with a few CM's today... all of them said the same thing: They do not trust a medical facility owned by Disney with their well being.

It looks like it is going to be small, I wish we could have a Kaiser Permanente, it is trully a one stop shop with every kind of specialist available in the same building.

The article states it would simply be a basic health center. What is it you don't trust? You think Disney is going to use cheaper tongue depressors? What exactly?

I think people are basing their experience with the current system of Company Doctors that handle Worker's Comp cases and little on the job injuries.

That is like being in and emergency room and waiting for triage and all that stuff. It can be frustrating though my personal experiences have not been that bad.

Mostly people, which most of the CMs are except for the AAs, are generally resistant to change regardless of how good or bad it may be. I have done the same thing then often later had to go back and say well I was wrong.
