I learned last night from my old art professor (who currently works at NOMA) that Disney is taking over the New Orleans Museum of Art in November until some time in early 2010. They will have imagineering, production, art work, and films on display. Apparently this is supposed to coincide with the Princess and the Frog since it takes place in New Orleans. Normally NOMA admittance is donation-based, but Disney will charge a ticket fee for entry.

Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio
November 15, 2009 - March 14, 2010

"The New Orleans Museum of Art will present Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio, a major exhibition featuring more than 600 original artworks that shaped legendary animated features including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio also will include artwork from the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios musical, The Princess and The Frog, an animated comedy from the creators of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, set in New Orleans and due for release at Christmas 2009."

Wow, sounds good.

This is just awful. They are charging the people of New Orleans to go to their own museum. These people have a right to go to their museum without having to pay. After all it was built by the people of New Orleans not by Disney. How dare Disney make a profit off of the education of the N.O. people.

If it is anything like any other museum I have gone to (and I've been to quite a few in my life) there will be a charge to enter the "special" exhibit, but not the rest of the museum. (If it is usually free) So, people will be able to go to the museum for free, but will have to pay a fee to view the Walt Disney exhibit. SOP for museums.
