Disney Studios?

:) I just viewed the newest vacation planning video. During the presentation it referred to MGM no longer. Narration used the term Disney Studios. I was curious if there is a signal here of a change? Shall it remain MGM?

Do you have a timeline of when it will be changed? The sign at the entrance of the park and all the maps still have it as Disney-MGM. Also, Kelly Ripa referred to it as Disney-MGM during the taping yesterday.

Whenever they mention the Studios on a Disney vacation planning video, they omit "MGM"--this isn't a new thing. I've had Disney vacation planning videos since 1993 and they've never said the park's full name. I don't know why they don't--maybe they aren't allowed to.

That park's name ISN'T going to be changing anytime soon.

I heard that they cannot use the MGM name outside of the United States on the promotional video. So in case the video gets out of the country they don't have to worry about the legalities.

I noticed this too a while ago. I asked here and someone told me that Disney couldn't use the MGM logo outside of the WDW property. That seems kinda strange, since I am sure Disney has made numerous refrences on tv and stuff. Mabey they just avoided it on the videos so they wouldn't have to go through all the legal stuff with MGM.

Then there is the idea that they are dropping MGM from the park. I kinda hope that they don't do this if it means that they lose a lot of the different movie titles throughout the park. For some reason I wouldnt think that getting rid of "MGM" would mean they would have to get rid of everything related to that company in the park. I mean, Disney uses Warner Brothers movies in the park, too, without the need of naming the park "Disney-Warner Studios".

I dont know :)

One thing that I am sure of is that if they do drop MGM from the park, many frequent guests will probably still be calling it "MGM" (at least I will!).

Notice, too, on the vacation videos that "MGM" is censored out on the archway (or whatever it is) by the animation courtyard.

The Christmas parade was taped yesterday. Regis and Kelly were both there to host.

It is changing! I asked a stock broker and he said it was because the MGM contract wore out! I dont know for sure but it was a reliable source. Disney's Touchstone pictures kind of competes with MGM I know that! They wouldent have to change any rides I dont think maybe the GMR but I dont know other than that! Any other info is great!

I'm sure a stock broker is one of the most reliable sources of information.

Actually, recent information has told me that the original contract to use the MGM name was only for 10 years. They did it to get more "non-disney" movies in the park and help with attendance. I think that Disney's many movie labels have created enough stuff to fill that park now.

Thanks People

:) Thanks for all the replies. Fascinating. Anyone recall MGM wanted Mickey to dance with Gene Kelly. Walt said no way will my mouse dance in a MGM film. So the "Tom and Jerry" mouse was used.

Funny how some of you say they can't use "MGM" outside property, and all promo material geared toward Brazilian audiences that travel agencies have always had the full name. At least, I never noticed anything different all these years...
