Around 10 years or so ago, I applied for a job at the Disney Store and had an interview that seemed to go really well as far as I was concerned. Then maybe 2 weeks later I got a postcard in the mail from them saying they weren't hiring at that time. ?! Then why did they call me for an interview?! Totally did not make any sense. Was very disappointed because back then I would have given almost anything to work for Disney in some capacity. These days I wouldn't make the cut because I'd be breaking too many of their appearance rules.

Actually, I went for an interview today too. It was the most fun I have ever had at an interview.
Back on the subject, sorry, can't help you. But I am sure someone around here can. In the meantime, it sounds very interesting. Why don't you just ask your boss?

Award

There is an award that is given out each year, I believe there even may be 2. However, I believe you have to be "nominated" for the award, and then you are competing against other DS cms. The Wife and I are due to start back with one of our local Stores this fall. (Sept.) Welcome to the boards and good luck with the job.

Hmmm, I worked for TDS for almost five years and have never heard of the springtime award. I wonder if maybe they're referring to the spirit award. That's an award given out once a year. You have to be nominated and you can only win it once in your career at TDS. I'm not sure if this is what they're referring to or not though.

I agree Coree. I was in managment at 2 stores and have never heard of a springtime award. We do give a spirit award and yes, you do have to be nominated. It is also a company wide contest, so the winners usually come from bigger districts. Have fun while you can working for TDS. They closed both of my store within a year of each other. They are also planning on closing a lot more if the company is sold as planned. Who really knows though! Have fun anyway!

Why are they closing Disney Stores? I just noticed yesterday that the one in Pensacola, FL was closed! I was very upset! They seem to get a lot of business. Is there something going on in the company that we (the outsiders) don't know?

Do Disney Store CM's get discounts on WDW trips? Just wondering if i should change careers. :animwink:

I have a friend who works there, and she gets in to WDW free just like a regular castmember...and I know she gets some discounts, too :) Once this campus rep gig is up, looks like it's Disney Store for me too! :p

Have fun working at TDS! I worked at mine over this summer, but just had to leave for school. It was a great experience, and I plan on returning for the holidays and next summer. Enjoy! :)

Just as a side note, TDS cast members do not get into WDW for free anymore! If your are an SM or ASM (full time, not a lead) you do get a silver pass. Now, twice a year you will get your two comp tickets. The practice of regular cast getting in for free ended sometime the end of last year, the beginning of this year. You can still get discounted tickets through your store or at Co D at WDW.

Why did they change it? That's rediculous (or as Tigger would say, redicorous  )! I went last November as a DS cast member and got free park admission and a 20% merchandise discount like all other cast members. When I made my PS for this November, I mentioned that I may be a cast member on the phone (I worked seasonally last year and have applied to return this year). The cast member on the phone didn't say anything to lead me to believe that DS cast members don't get discounts anymore. Oh well, good to know before the trip so I can buy my tickets in advance and at least save some $$.

Quick question. My dad asked an employee at the disney store does she go to disney alot, and she says that the employees get vacations there from time to time. I dont know if they pay for her expenses or what. So my question is to anyone who works there or knows the answer, do employees at TDS get free vacations to go to WDW and or DLR.

Since Ill be 16 next year, maybe I can get a jop there after school. If I could get one now, I surely would.

Sorry, no free vacations. TDS CMs do still get merchandise and food discounts at WDW, but as someone else said, no longer get free admission to the parks (as of January 04). CMs do get four comp tickets per year, so that does make it a bit easier to make the trip.

As for the hiring age, I know they lowered the age from 18 to 16 at Christmas, but I wasn't sure if that was a permanent move or not.

We only hire over 18. There's a quarterly Teamwork award. You get a pin and your name on plaque that's kept in the store. As for park discounts- that may be ending very soon. You know there won't be any discounts after they sell us.

Well, it's sad that we no longer get into the parks for free, but I just purchased an AP for myself. We do get discounts on all merchandise (that I know of) and a discount at table service restaurants. There are a select few Quick Service restaurants where we get our discount, none at MK that I know of. As for the age requirement, at holiday time it is lowered to 16, but to work there on a regular basis, you must be 18. I know that for a fact because we were doing some interviewing over the weekend.
As for the award, the only award I can think about would be the Teamwork Award which is given out quarterly. I've never received that, but I'm hoping to someday! Free vacation from TDS, I don't think so! LOL!

I love my job at The Disney Store!

Congrats fellow Disney Store Cast member... there are quarterly awards that are given out. I have received two Teamwork Awards in the past few years. Those are given out by management usually at the meetings right before Christmas and in the Spring. The Spirit Award was chosen sometime in May and like everyone else said it's a once in a career type of thing. There is a National Hiring Day in September where we try to attract new cast members.

Membership has it's priviledges but not like in the past with free park admission.

9 days and counting..... :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Techinically, we were never suppose to get into the parks for free but it was something that was overlooked. We still get our room discounts and 35% (over 3 yrs) off merchandise and 20% and up depending on the restaurant (some restaurants offer 50% at certain times of the day), we lost our discount at the water parks and no more free entry to Pleasure Island on cast nights but we still get 50% off tickets (we did in May, not sure if it changed with the changes in Pleasure Island). All and all they still give us a pretty good deal even without park admission.
