they actually had plans at one time to open a ski resort and The Country Bear Jamboree actraction came out of that idea.
"It was actually a revision of an idea originally condidered for Walt's proposed Mineral King ski resort in California-a stand-along project studied by WED for several yeras in the mid-1960's. It is often said that no good idea ever really dies at Imagineering, and Country Bear Jamboree is an excellent example. When the Mineral King project fell throught, this Marc Davis concept was reconsidered for use at the Park."
-The Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom
The Mineral King Ski Resort was developed a long time ago, back when Walt was still alive. The Country Bear Jamboree was originally created for it. Needless to say, this idea never came to realization.
There was an article in one of the hospitality trade magazines a little under a year ago where they were conjecturing that based on the success of Hilton Head and Vero Beach (two Disney resorts that are not related to theme parks), the fact that they were now offering other non-theme park actions with their Adventures by Disney, and they have been very successful hosting business conventions/trade shows that is was only a matter of time before Disney starts spreading out its hospitality brand to the more popular Adventures locations and the more popular trade show locations. Don't know if it is true, but it does make sense.
