It would be acceptable to say, “sorry about your sis, but they did a great job constructing a building with walls and floors. And nice job painting. Hardly any spaces need to be touched up.”

Disney should not focus on negatives and turn this into a positive. For example. Look at the wide range of in room TV viewing options available to guests. TV Land is an upper tier channel on many cable/satellite systems, but is complimentary at Disney Resorts.

Can’t really see the pictures clearly enough (at least on my phone) but is it possible these are metal screws that ripped out of the metal studs? Not that this makes it ok but I’m having a hard time believing a project like this used plastic drywall anchors to mount a bed to a wall. Regardless, very glad she’s ok!

They're plastic and obviously weren't attached to anything inside the wall...they just slid right out.

ETA: I went to the FB group so I could see the pic better.

At the 5:08 mark you can see that it's dependent upon the completely weak sauce lacking wall "anchor" they used. Knuckleheaded construction at its best.

Thanks.

That's way to much cantilever to not be secured to the wall structure as part of it's installation. I wouldn't be surprised if they tip over when they're empty if not secured to the wall. I'm also not sure how the person wasn't more seriously hurt.

There should have been lag bolts, screws, or carriage bolts into wall structure. In fact, I'm not even sure why the wall is completely finished behind the unit. I would almost expect a pocket for access to the wall anchors inside the wall. Remove a panel from the bed frame, reach into the wall to get to a bolt that goes through a structural support. It's not like anyone will ever see that wall while the unit is installed, the bed becomes part of the wall.

I've used heavy duty drywall anchors, molly bolts, those little wings in a huge version, even a huge grab bar support with a funky expanding washer for things before. But, only as a retrofit. In new construction, where you know the use ahead of time and can plan, this should have been planned better.

It doesn't make me want to stay there, at the higher cost, vs at a resort where the extra bed is more of bench with no fear of tipping.

When I lived in Disney housing something similar happened to this. The person wasn’t hurt but we all received a phone call and a notice delivered to our apartments not to use the item item until they had been inspected and cleared, which happened later that day (and no I’m not talking about the hot tubs ;) )
The problem in this situation is that the resort guest called "disney front desk" from their hotel room and that call went to a central call center rather than the manager on duty at the resort, so any management response to the possibly bigger risk to guests would not be flagged up immediately and the risk issues may not even have become apparent until the story, and photo, became visible on social media.

There's no way the Imagineers actually visited the Riviera. I haven't seen any evidence of that. There's so much rich detail and architecture to be found there. Port Orleans is more richly themed than this and it's basically a motel.

At the very least if they had focused only on the *French* Riviera then they may have been able to bridge the thematic divide with the Caribbean Beach, maybe even re theme some of the north buildings to enhance any french details. But no, Walt also went to Italy, so....
