Disney Ride Has Sent Six To Hospital In Eight Months

Did the phrase "Realistic Space Simulation" get lost on these people!?!

Oi Vey!

I worked in Space Ops in the Air Force. The G-Forces are not extreme on the shuttle, but they are significant.

When will people learn...

sympathize with those who have been sent to the hospital and others who experience adverse effects. It is a compeltely new use of technology and a completely new type of ride system and experience that it is somewhat difficult for people to determine what it really is all about and if they will be ok on it.

This has been my point all along also. We on this board also have a better knowledge of the ride than most of the other people that go to Disney. We assume everyone knows exactly what happens on this ride but sometimes the signs do not do it justice.

I really wonder how long this ride will last in its current form.

The G-Force regulation talks concerning M:S are unsubstantied. The forces exerted on Mission: Space are truly not that Large. You experience much greater forces on Rockin' Roller Coaster's launch.

However, the forces that you DO FEEL on M:S are exerted for much longer periods of time.

Anyhow, I've never seen a ride more "warned" than Mission: Space. They even have the ride capsule OUTSIDE for crying out loud.

Not to mention the video monitors that constant show how the ride moves....

Please, this is just frusturating.:)

To be honest I am not sure how my body will handle this ride and I dont think I will ever know until I give it a try. I think a lot of people feel the way I do.

My philosophy...

Why take a chance?
If you have any doubt (i.e. you've gotten motion sickness before, etc.) then don't ride.

No attraction is worth getting ill over. :) I'd rather see someone not ride, instead of getting sick, calling the ride a danger to hummanity, and then blaming Disney for not warning you enough.

I think some ppl feel that if they are paying $55 to get in, they want to get the most for their money. Some ppl believe more is better, and they want to ride everything and see every show, even if it is not their bag.

Their is a lot of stuff at WDW I have not done (hall of presidents, tom sawyer island, kali river rapids) jsut because I did not want to rush myself, or I was not interested.

realisitcally, how rough is this ride? I usually do well with these types, however i do not do well on the teacups, but i can handle rollercoasters....(except batman the ride at six flags...i almost passed out....)

Do i need dramamine (sp)?

lol:cry:

Effects of rides will vary from person to person. A few years back I developed an intolerance for rides that have repeated spinning motion. I still ride coasters and drop rides like ToT but the teacups I now have to pass up or just ride without making them spin any more than the motion of the turntable.

That said, M:S masks the spinning in such a way that does NOT affect me. The G increase is very smooth but does reach a level that it can hold for several seconds at a time. The only lateral motion I could feel was the whip around the Moon just before the final leg to Mars. So to say the ride is "rough" like maybe a wooden coaster that batters you around would be incorrect.

I'm pretty sensitive when it comes to lateral motion...and I felt it on the ride.

I didn't enjoy the ride though because I didn't feel the G forces enough. I felt that we were spinning, or I could physically sense it. The discomfort from that was pretty high. Ruined it a bit.

Me, I prefer G's on a coaster (or aTOT type ride).

Don't let me design a ride...I'll pull 6 G's on ya

I know I dont like Rollercoaster but I love StarTours/Bodywars. I agree that I am paying $55 so I should try it. My point is that it is a different experience ..one I have never felt so hard to tell if I will get sick or not..

When I first rode that in September I honestly had no idea WHAT the ride was. Disney's website didn't give away many answers either when I researched it ahead of time.

And now, even after I've ridden it, I still have no idea what exactly was happening.

Was it spinning??

If it was spinning, then I didn't even know it. I can't even spin around in my desk chair without feeling nauseous, but I came out of Mission Space feeling totally fine.

I think NOT knowing what is going on is better than knowing!

But since I don't know, now I'm curious. What does Mission Space actually do? I feel like a dummy having ridden it and still not knowing what I rode.

It was just on the 11:00 news in Hershey, Pa. They said something about how state lawmakers are going to be looking into whether or not there are enough signs warning about the ride. I rode it for the first time last August and I distinctly remember being warned about the ride at least 5 or 6 times before boarding. It almost got to the point of annoyance....
I guess not everyone is smart enough to take the warnings and ruin it for everyone else.

The Orlando NBC station reported that MS contains 8 warning signs.

They also reported that over 3,000,000 ppl have ridden the ride...ok, then why such a big deal about 6 ppl, 4 of whom had previous known conditions.

Stories that followed in the newscast included:

2 Orange County sherrifs that were shot in the line of duty today.
Bush asks congress for $25,000,000,000 more for the middle east wars.
The recent bombing in Greece.

Ok, which is really the biggest news story of the day?

Ah nuts!!!!!! I was diagnosed with high blood pressure on Monday, 5/3/04. This summer would be my first try at M:S. I'm going to have to rethink all the attractions now before riding. What an incredible bummer!!!
