Disney Research Introduces New Touch Technology

Touch screens today have you doing only that, touching; without feeling. Disney has made a touch screen device that you can actually feel. This is amazing to be able to feel weight just through touching an electronic screen.

Imagine you're shopping online through your next gen phone with this technology. You come across a new shirt you think looks awesome. So you touch the shirt on a website and you can feel every single detail of the shirt.

This technology is mind blowing in every kind of way. What's next? being able to pick up a piece of food from you're touch screen and taste it? Or smell things from your cell phone?

I hope this clears up how amazing this is haha

This really is pretty amazing. I had no idea that TWDC employed or had a divison which was geared towards this level of technology. Next Gen is truely going to be groundbreaking.

This is a big step in computer feedback. I remember the first computers that I was using with keypunch cards and a printout. No video screen at all. Then a text only screen, then the graphics came into play and look at the amazing computer generated displays we use today.

This now brings touch feedback to the user. I can think of tons of possibilities, not only the obvious iphone screen, but what about the grip of a video game controller or a brail Kindle for the visual impaired. It's nice to see that Disney is keeping Walt's spirit of innovation alive.

not sure if im missing something, but my current cell phone has a touch screen that vibrates every time you touch it. So whats the big deal? it vibrates with every character touched.:shrug:
