Oh I agree, and the same could be said for so many places now. This whole plastic straw thing has just kind of got to me though. I've been spending the last couple of weeks in a town that's really pushing it. If you dine in a restaurant here, you have to request a straw, yet you can have a styrofoam take-out container. Makes me chuckle too...and cry a little.
In my experience Disney restaurants already use paperboard to-go containers and recycled paper bags.

I said it in the Ziploc/SM thread, and I'll say it again here-plastic has become the new, trendy environmental evil, the bad guy. Nobody stops to think of this-if eventually there will be no plastic lids or straws, how many people, who work at the facilities where these things are made, are going to lose their jobs? And before anyone jumps on the "plastic companies will have to adapt and use environmentally friendly materials"-that takes time and adds additional cost, which will be passed onto the consumer-those paper straws and lids are gonna cost you more than the plastic versions. The sewage and toxic wastes we are pouring into our waterways are likely much more damaging to the environment than plastic straws in the trash.

As a person who bites my straw...paper straws just don't work for me because they get all soggy. Maybe they should focus on bigger items and not the smallest item of plastic. This also makes me feel like one day we are going to all be stuck using "reusable toilet paper" lol
Solution: Don't bite your straw

Also, toilet paper is actually pretty great, environment wise. With regenerative logging practices, the only impact would be the environmental cost to produce. Toilet paper dissolves pretty much instantly in water, too, leaving only the waste it cleaned. I don't think "reusable" toilet paper will ever be a thing.

Worst case scenario, we switch over to Japan's Bidets.

Regardless of the percentage, if you can reduce your impact on the environment in any way at all, it should absolutely be applauded.
While I agree philosophically...

Personally, I want them to keep putting water bottle filling stations all over. I’ll gladly pay 15 bucks for a Disney decorated Nalgene bottle over a couple Dasanis any day.

What I’m saying is an EPCOT Center nalgene is my kyptonite.

I would love refilling stations throughout. We end up buying a tervis as a souvenir almost every trip, I could easily see us buying a water bottle every trip

There are people that have a family cloth thing for the bathroom.

Right. Why stop at straws? Magic Bands are made from plastic, correct?
They aren’t stopping at straws.

This article also mentions stirrers, plastic bags, and toiletry bottles. This is on top of on going company wide initiatives, previous reductions and eliminations, and a robust recycling program.

It’s not about straws. It’s about reducing and eliminating unnecessary plastics wherever they are. With very very few exceptions, straws are unnecessary.

And yet, every little bit helps. For every virtuous liberal in America, there is a ‘Murican conservative to say “this change won’t solve every problem on the planet so we should just do nothing.”
So doing something that is practically nothing makes sense to you? Eliminating straws makes drinking shakes and frappes much harder. They might have to water them down.

Well, there's also our final answer to the soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower area debacle as well..

But, what the heck are they going to be doing on shopping bags? I know I had seen the Reusable totes being sold in the stores for a small price but, isn't that also going to conflict guests if you saayyy you didn't carry a backpack and didn't want to pay for a tote you have to carry your shirt while enjoying the rest of your day in the parks? How does this effect Disney owned stores in Disney Springs when you get the big shoppers there at World of Disney?
I have a fear that Disney will start selling cloth shopping bags for about 15 bucks a pop. The more you buy in store, means the more you have to carry. Thus, you have to purchase more cloth shopping bags...

So, they aren't getting rid of Magic Bands, right? They seem "unnecessary". Room keys were made of metals. People only dispose of a credit card once every 3 years or so. Fastpasses were already made from paper. Why the straws, but not Magic Bands? Hmmmm...

There will probably be paper bags. Like the paper grocery bags? It’s still not going to work nearly as well, but...anything to save the environment....right?

You would think they would go paper, but at my local Disney store it's a $.69 tote bag or nothing. (They stopped giving plastic bags at the begining ov July, saying "Disney is going Green") It just comes off as a money grab and not an environmental help. Other stores that dont use plastic at least use paper and dont make you buy something to take your PURCHASE home.

Dont get me wrong I am cool with limiting plastics and having paperstraws, but let me ask this, if we take all the plastic out and start consuming more paper products wont we have a bigger deforestation/death of the rain forest issues...
