A broadway theater was never on the table for that location, it was just a pipe dream. Now, not to say a theater hasn't been considered, but it seems less likely by the day.I'm disappointed that the NBA thing is back on the table. Some of the ideas in this thread were wholly more interesting. In particular I liked the Broadway theater idea.
Don't expect the building to stay in its current form.Maybe they get rid of a floor or two? Have a restaurant and bar as the top level with high ceilings, and basketball props/memorabilia. The other floors have your games, and NBA themed activities. Of course you have a store which will probably be on the main floor for ease of access. Maybe some basketball simulators, Xbox or PlayStation gaming area to play the latest 2KNBA game.
Sums up my feelings about this.
Or Disney finally caved from some of their demands combined with declining DQ attendance lead to this.Very surprised to see this is back. The NBA must be very, very, very determined. Universal obviously wounded their pride.
If the ESPN Zone could not make it at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, why would an NBA version fare better at Disney Springs?
We're there in August too. Really disappointed. Being a Brit I'm not interested in basketball at all.Disappointed in this news, would have liked one more visit in August this year..
The NBA was not happy about being kicked out of CityWalk. While Disney may have changed some of their terms, probably related to who is paying for construction as the NBA wasn't keen on having to spend a small fortune to update this massive building to fit Disney Springs, the NBA still had to stick around even after the project died twice before.Or Disney finally caved from some of their demands combined with declining DQ attendance lead to this.
Disney doesn't want to operate this giant building anymore. They just want to collect rent.
The two things are not mutually exclusive though. The NBA was not happy about being kicked out of CityWalk. Disney has no problem closing venues and letting them rot, even at their mall the very center of which sat shuttered for years. The two things are not mutually exclusive though.
Yes the NBA wanted to stick around, but Disney has been wanting to close DQ for quite some time.
They were never going to close DQ until they had a replacement... despite it's recent failings, it still makes money. They would rather not have to do the work and still make money though.Disney has no problem closing venues and letting them rot, even at their mall the very center of which sat shuttered for years.

I find the whole concept to be completely lackluster. Booh!
Though I am not defending DQ...It needs to be replaced with something... but not this....
The Broadway style theater was a fun idea... I am sure they could come up with some better things...Hell, Dave and Busters would be better than NBA....
