Disney Quest to close in July 2017

I think Disney Quest also suffered by launching at the same time arcades began their slide into irrelevance and home gaming took such leaps that there was no reason to go to an arcade. Has anyone under the age of 30 ever considered an arcade as a place to hang out?

Ironically, they are going to close the place just as VR and immersive experiences are starting to make a leap forward and a big comeback

In theory actually the VR stuff that you cannot get at home should have kept DQ going. Yes arcade cabinets were out due to home gaming, but the VR stuff and things like Cyberspace Mountain are more unique. If they had kept up with updates properly it should have stayed better.

I think that DQ is a viable model if they were willing to put the money into it to update the attractions. Replacing/updating 1-2 attractions a year would keep the place on top of the latest tech and offer a unique experience and good compliment to the rest of WDW's offerings and create more reason for people to visit DS.

Blue sky, but let's copy the Marketplace Co-Op concept of modular areas into DisneyQuest for a five story Pleasure Island-esque destination.

We already have concepts from DCL in small enclosed space and we know that we have enough remaining elements from closed clubs at PI.

Brilliant idea, bring it back to the original Church St. Station, with multiple clubs in one building. Single floor dedicated to big clubs--an update Mannequins, 8Traxx--other floors subdivided, say, a new Comedy Warehouse-type show, a karaoke bar and a lounge. One cover charge for the night, one main entry point to keep out anybody under 21.

Of course, have to find a third party with the foresight to pull this off, because Disney not putting anything of their own in this building.

What if they managed to get Wicked? They could charge $200/seat and sell out nightly. And it's quite family-friendly.

Of course, it'd be easier for them to just throw in Lion King.
I know it is not possible, but God if it happened I would die...die! Universal should look into a bringing maybe a shorter version to the parks, that would be cool to see

Universal Studios Japan had a shortened version of Wicked for a while. After it closed, they packed up all the sets and costumes and shipped them to Orlando. They are sitting in a warehouse somewhere here in town waiting for the right time to be used in the park.

And concerning other residence shows at Disney Springs. I believe that Cirque has an exclusivity clause in the contract where no other permanent type stage show can come to Disney Springs.

Well there ya go. Honestly I feel like Cirque has so much material to work with that even if they wanted someything new, they could bring a refreshed showing of an old performance.

If this is true it's good news as I have no idea how they could maintain interest in a single sport that's not really a big deal outside of the USA. Now I could see a an ESPN sports bar with immersive themed levels and weekly events (autograph signings and the like) fitting in well in that building but realistically I don't know how that would hold up long term either.

I blame more on the discontent with Disney/ESPN and the NBA then worries over not appealing to the foreign travelers bonding. Soccer in the USA isn't what it is outside the USA either yet the soccer stuff sells at WDW. International travelers only make up 18-22 percent of attendance breakdown, likely less soon given the strength of the dollar this year. While 20% is not something to brush off, still the overwhelming majority of guests are from the USA.

I still have two 1-day DisneyQuest tickets I bought from a ticket reseller years ago, ended up not using them and now have no interest. I'm hoping if I sit on them long enough they'll let me exchange them for water park tickets after DQ closes. ;-)
