Disney Quest operating hours to be cut

Yeah, it's time for this to go. Had some fun there 20 years ago, but it's way
past it's prime and there's nothing to do to save it. IMO.

It should have been closed years ago, its in a pretty shambolic state these days.

Hopefully Disney figure out what to with it soon, its too much space to waste on an arcade that's at least a decade past it's prime.

Blame Iger. He wanted to build a new fast past system for ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Forget attractions - his priority was you get on Stitches Great Escape using fast pass.

We had this conversation on another thread. Fast Pass+ is a large part of My Magic+ But most of the cash spend was on IT and infrastructure improvements that were needed anyway.

Whether MyMagic+ was done or not they would still have needed to spend a couple million on infrastructure.

Wonder if operating hours on bathrooms will be cut soon.
Don't be ridiculous! Why would they close a bathroom sooner then anything else when they could add Pay-per-Flush toilets instead, making even the bathroom a revenue generating cost center? LOL

Are we sure this is because of the cuts from Shanghai and such? Disney Quest just doesn't seem to ever be busy anymore and is often running deals just to entice people to come in. I could see this happening just because the place isn't popular.

It would have to be an extreme coincidence not to be.

Update it. Replace the attractions that were closed, update some of the ones that don't work well anymore or have poor graphics, and make it a state-of-the-art place again. Maybe create a more open feel by changing to a lighter color scheme and adding some rows of windows in seating or arcade areas (if that's possible). But is there any trend or development we can point to that's responsible for making DisneyQuest less popular? I don't think so, I think the problem comes from it just feeling sort of old, dark, and umm, arcade-y. I think it's a great value for the price, the interest in the concept is there, and it could definitely have been "saved" if Disney had wanted to.

Gonna have to cut a few hundred more CM jobs to do that. ;)

You know what would really save them money if they need it so badly because of Shanghai. Just shut down Disney quest I just can't see how it's making much money anymore.

Update what? Arcade games are pretty much gone. Put in a bunch of XBoxes? Interactive experiences, well, isn't that what Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is? A motion platform in front of screens? (And AA's) I guess you don't interactively shoot at things or move your own platform, but that's what it is.

There just aren't any new games or experiences right now, that are compelling. VR is on the cusp of being an in home thing,
everyone's got an HDTV 50" or bigger and surround sound in their living room. There's Kinect for XBox, motion controllers for the aging Wii.
What new tricks are out there that will wow people?

It just isn't the 80's or the 90's anymore. If Disney is going to build custom, interactive experiences, they're going to go
all out (Milennium Falcon attraction, I'd better be lookin' at you!). And there really isn't anything 'off the shelf' out there
in the world to upgrade to.

I'm willing to be shown the way, but at face value I am not sure where they could go with it at this time.
Feel free to educate me, I'm not stuck in my opinion, I might be missing something.

It seems like Splitsville, a bowling alley, is the better thing there, and serves the purpose. Put some classic
arcade games in, done. And I'm saying that as someone who has had fun in DisneyQuest, and doesn't like
to bowl.

do you really think Disney Quest is closing because of FP+? That place is a waste of space for the most part... should have closed a long time ago regardless of anything else

I personally think they should turn it into an indoor interactive mini-golf which could still be part of water parks and more offering plus others pay to play and a nice option for rainy days

Love Disneyquest...hope they renovate it...without it we will not be at Disney Springs...there wont be anything for the kids to do except complain there is nothing for them to do at Disney Springs...( no..bowling and the movies dont count, we do that all the time already)

Yeah, but it leaves a big gaping hole in that part of the Springs. It's already slower down there to begin with. Taking a small loss is probably worth trying to keep appearances up that there are things down there to do, especially when trying to draw new tenants. No one wants to open a store/restaurant in a low traffic area.

Disney could make the provide much less bathroom capacity if they just integrated it info the Fastpass system. Guests could unlock stall #14 at 20:00 using their magic band, and the door would unlock on its own after your 5 minute allocation expires ;-)

Forbidden Journey has nothing in common with Disney Quest except the use of projectors. In all of the DQ attractions you are at least in part in control of your own path, whether that is paddling down the correct river, or hitting other vehicles with balls. On Forbidden Journey you are passively travelling past screens and animatronics.

They could quite easily update DQ, some of the games are good, just need tweeking, such as the river paddling, with new more accurate sensors and a HD projector it would be a better experience. Other games like Mighty Ducks Pinball are better on the scrap heap.
There is a lot that could be done if Disney wanted to. But its obvious they don't, they just want a third party to take over most of the venues on DS. No-one else would spend the money on R&D for Disney Quest now, which is a shame.

I did say about FJ "I guess you don't interactively shoot at things or move your own platform, but that's what it is."

I still don't see it. It's nice that you're hopeful, I'm an optimist through and through, I just think it's time.

But shooting your own things and moving your own platform are the unique aspects of DisneyQuest. you might as well be on Small World if there is no interactivity, this why even with your comment about FJ it doesn't make sense.

I agree that DQ has had its day though, Disney could have fixed it if they wanted but they obviously don't want to.
