If a pool is being refurbished, then they use the quiet pools. The hotels have a main pool and some quiet pools. They announce when they are refurbishing pools. As a matter of fact, I think they just announced that the pool at the Coronado is going under major rehab and they did state that the quiet pools will be open for use. In other words, if you want a state of the art pool, change hotels!

Why Pool Hop anyway... A Pool is a Pool and if you go to other resorts pools, especially larger resorts, the crowd will just get bigger.
It won't be long until your going to need your room key to get into the pool area, Just Like Vegas

Maybe I am crazy...but I don't understand why anyone would pool hop????

Who has time to go to all of that trouble.....what a waste of time. You should look at the pool that comes with your resort and if you don't like it,,,pick another resort.

Pool Hopping

Pool hopping was fun to do when there was a certain pool you wanted to try. When my kids were little, we couldn't afford to stay in the expensive places. We wanted to try the pool at the Polynesian and the Yacht and Beach Club. Stormalong bay is quite a nice swimming area. I would have to say we loved our day in the pool there. Now you must understand we stayed at Disney but not the expensive hotels. Now I'm talking about at least 12 or more years ago. There were no rules back then about where you could swim. Since they have gotten strict about the pools, I would never, ever do that anymore but again back then, there were no rules. As long as you stayed at a Disney resort, there were no restrictions. I can definitely understand why they have to put stricter rules in. If it was enforced many years ago, we would never have even thought about it. But it would make you want to stay at a certain place. Now that my kids are older (21 & 26) we split rooms among the four of us and we can afford to stay at the more expensive hotels. But in all honestly, a pool is a pool and the pools at CB, Riverside are all beautiful. There really is no reason anymore to do that.:animwink:

That was when I started with my sis, before the rules wre applied. Now it is just tradition to do, and we don't even stay at the pools, I just wanna go down the slides once.

And you may see this as wasted time, as was mentioned, but to each his own. I view DD as a waste of time and money, everyone has their own thing that they do and enjoy. Though mine is now deemed illegal, we'll see what happens.

Yes I am of the opinion that you swim where you stay. Sorry we pay big bucks to stay at the Poly and Beach Club and I feel that is one of our perks, a nice pool. I also commented to a CM at the Beach Club and said something like you keep Stormalong Bay locked up like the gold in Fort Knox, and she replied, yes and that is the way we like it here. However at the Poly its like anyone can get off the monorail and come in. I mentioned to my DH that I thought a good idea would be to put up a gate at all the pools at each resort and just have you swipe your room card, I might even mention this idea to Disney. They could even save money and not have to pay the pool police CM's and yes we have been interogated by them at Stormalong Bay. Sorry I know there will be people mad at me, but its my opinion. Eat at the other resorts, visit, but stay out of the pool. They are already crowded enough

.....must keep temper and word carefully :)

Remember, you can't make this into a "It's too crowded at our resort" issue. You'll probably get little/no sympathy from most of the crowd around here.

I agree that you paid to be at the poly, you should get exclusive use of the pool. I also think that there should be a charge that allows you to pool-hop if you wish. It would make it easy, and Disney could make a few extra bucks. But really, if you get a good hopper pass, you can go to a waterpark anyway, and what's the purpose of going to a hotel pool?

Now, if they put up a scan gate, you could just follow somebody in who opens the door...you would just have to time it right that you follow right on their heels. So in the long run CM's are necessary to curb pool hopping.

On the other hand, you're staying at a high-profile hotel like the poly or Y&B, so you're naturally going to have more hoppers go those ways. It's all part of the territory. Sad but true.

I think the way people get mad about the whole pool hopping thing is they see it 2 ways:

1) WDW is one huge property and people feel that all the hotels are one. While this is not the case, some people have a hard time getting it through their heads that the hotels are operated as if they are (and they are) separate entities.

2) The attitude of "we paid more money - we get more". While those who paid that amount of money may agree, many will not. Those who think about it rationally will be able to agree also. However, when that statement is made, people tend to feel slighted and some will even look upon it as just another reason to pool hop to stick it to you. :) To some it is the same as if you say "I'm staying at the poly, I deserve to skip all the lines". I know it's a stretch, but the logic follows for some people.

I hope this helps. I'm not trying to be malicious, I'm just trying to dispell and future arguments by laying out the facts on the table.

At least from my vantage point....that is :)

Did you happen to ever run into "YankeeFan" during your pool hopping escapades? He's another one that thinks using amenities that other people have paid for is ok.

Do a forum search on this subject and you'll find a pretty heated debate about it that took place last year.

The thing that irks me more than the pool hopping aspect of this, is your flagrant disregard of the rules and subsequent bragging about your violating them. If you want to pool hop, go ahead. But don't expect a free pass from anyone in this forum that has an ounce of moral integrity.

(I swore I wouldn't get involved in this thread)

Pool Hopping

I'm sorry, you are totally wrong. When we did it when my kids were young, there were no rules but because we did it and many many more is probably why they had to set rules up. I a rule states on a ride you have to be so many inches tall, you obey it. If a rule is that you have to be 21 to get into pleasure island by yourself, then you obey it. If a rule states that you can only use your 12.00 cups for the resort at YOUR resort, then you obey it!!! Why does anyone feel that they should get away with something? If your not supposed to use apool, then you don't. Do you get some sort of high by breaking rules? Disney is a family park and by going there you should obey any rules that there are. Would you like it if everyone on the outside of the parks come in at your pool and make it crowded so you can't enjoy it? Come on people, grow up!

I was curious to know Disney's official stance on pool hopping. So I emailed guest relations. Here is the email I recieved in response:

"Thank you for contacting WALT DISNEY WORLD!

We appreciate your interest in learning about Walt Disney World Resort recreation pool facilities. Our research has indicated that most of our guests feel it is more important to have swimming space available at the resort in which they are staying, rather than to swim at another resort. We would like to mention that guests are able to enjoy the pools located at the resort in which
they are residing. Our swimming areas are designed to accommodate the number of guests staying at each particular resort. Consequently, the total number of guests staying at the Walt Disney World Resort could potentially create crowded conditions at some of our more popular swimming facilities.

Due to issues related to capacity and guest satisfaction, the pool hopping program for Stormalong Bay, the main feature pool at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, was discontinued effective July 1, 2002. Disney Vacation Club Members will no longer be able to pool hop to Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, UNLESS they are staying at these resorts or at Disney's Beach Club Villas. The current pool hopping program at the Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools will continue to be available to Members with the exception of certain restricted dates and/or further capacity issues.

We hope this information will be helpful."

This topic has been covered many times and no solution has ever been reached. Some will think pool hopping is ok others won't. Anyone who is interested in the past debates can feel free to read through the old threads.

here is one of the most lengthy, it's never pretty.
