Very interesting how candid they were about DCA. Especially Iger.

I do wonder if they saw how adding more Disney to DCA made it a higher rated experience, thus Pixar Pier was born, which aesthetically helped the pier, but thematically feels like an early DCA dud.

I like the series. After seeing the Mystic Manor stuff, I watched a whole ride-through. It made me think of some of the cultural miscues at DL Paris. Hong Kong was taken from the Chinese by the British. Why have a main character of a ride be an eccentric British explorer? Why not have an eccentric, wealthy Chinese explorer?

Hong Kongers don't exactly love the Chinese or see themselves as such.

Hong Kong and China never had a good history with each other (especially in recent years). Hong Kongers prefer to be separate from China (especially Mainland China).

In light of recent events, let's just say Hong Kong and China don't have a good history with each other. Hong Kongers prefer to be separate from China (especially Mainland China).
I didn't mean "a mainland, communist Chinese"character. A Hong Konger would be great, just not an old white guy representing an empire that ruled over your country for 150 years. Why not have characters that looked like the local population? I would think it might hit a raw nerve in some folks that doesn't need to be hit at a theme park.

Probably to avoid alienating international visitors. Which could explain why the ride's dialogue is in english.

You're talking about a theme park whose whole identity is based on romanticizing the past through the eyes of an American media giant.

I don't think Hong Kongers really care. The ride is a period piece. The "old, eccentric Victorian explorer" type is typically white.

i don’t particularly dislike the Disney characters in its a small world. The little mermaid is the only one that particularly annoys me as it seems totally out of place.

But I don’t feel like that plussed the attraction in any way.

IMHO, Pixar Pier transformation did not help the park aesthetics.
For real.

I actually don't mind many of the Pixar Pier changes (even though they seem pointless, but whatever), but I just can't get passed this one. I. Just. Can't. I mean, am I supposed to be the size of a toy now? But the rest of the pier is normal size, so....??? I just don't understand this one at all.

And... and.... if you are going to make a poultry palace, then why in the name of Buzz, is this not on the menu?????

This is easily the single worst offender in and of itself. Still think top nod overall however goes to the new scream tunnels due to their size and visibility.

The streets of Hong Kong are full of protestors, many waiving colonial flags. I don’t think they’re alienated by a British character. The park is also majority owned by the Government of Hong Kong, so they get final say on attractions.

I mean. That will be an easy fix one day. Just carry it away haha.

Im speaking of the actual facade changes made. Better marquee for Screamin’, Fun-Wheel etc. If you strip the Pixar convolution, it’s quite pretty.
