"Local 6 News has learned that Walt Disney World is planning layoffs this holiday season.

Banquet workers told Local 6 News that the cuts will come December 14. Sources also confirm that the company announced that date.

However, Disney won't announce who or how many people will lose their jobs until next Wednesday.

Watch Local 6 News for more on this developing story. "

This seems a bit odd to me. Im not saying this is BS. I guess this will only happen in certain areas. Wont be in my area considering they called myself and about seven-ten others back in to help out because of the season.

Oh well, seems like this happens like every two months.

I wonder why management can't see that less cast members, service, maintenance, cleanliness and hospitality costs more in the long run than their cost-cutting attempts with layoffs?

As much as Id like to say its just an isolated problem...EVERYONE is doing layoffs latley. Disney just does it at a more public manner. Yeah..its a bummer...but theres not much that can be done

What are "banquet workers" according to Disney?

Is that cast members who work F&B for conventions?

If so, unless there's a constant flow of convention bookings, there's nothing surprising about this. If anything, Disney is unusual only in that they have a separate staff exclusive to this.

Most other corps or smaller outfits have laid off these workers due to a lack of demand or simply outsourcing when a demand arises to curb healthcare.

Personally, if i was a "banquet worker" at WDW, i'd have another job as well, given the fields ebb and flow and demand.

Let 's just hope the nice CM's I met at WDW last time don't go. My animation tour guide, The lady at the electric umbrella who I got in a lengthy disscussion about Figment, and of course.... My Jungle cruise skipper.

Layoffs

Just spitballing here, but could this be some sort of retaliation for a lack of support for Mr. Eisner?

Not saying that it is, merely posing the theory. Now I'm aware that things have been slow in certain areas I'm sure. But, why would you cut staffing? I know, it's the easiest, quickest, and cleanest way for ANY business to gain instant market share. Blah, Blah, Blah. And oh by the way, we CARE about customer service. YEAH, RIGHT!!!!! The only customers the bigshots care about serving are themselves. It's time for a wholesale change of attitude, not only at Disney but in this country. Disney NEEDS to
get back to the ideals and visions that made it the great Comp. it once was. I miss the old days when it was just about having fun and people at Disney making sure that the guests were taken care of and having fun. Not saying that the great castmembers there still don't do these things. But it gets harder and harder with layoffs, corporate turmoil, over-budget projects, etc. etc.

Let's hope that the powers that be read the many posts that i've read on this subject this week. And let's all band together to make sure that this company changes.
