Disney Parks Leap Year

First I fail to see what is soo exciting about the parks being open 24hrs other than it has never happenend before. The only benefit I can see from this is allowing non locals extra time to ride attractions they ordinarily may not be able to do

I am curious if there will be extra entertainment such as a nighttime performance of CADCT? heh daytime is bad enough...
Or how about a special return performance of Spectro along with MSEP? They have the floats just sitting backstage and it is not like they are under refurb, at least not that I have heard... Heck they even brought out some of the floats for the marathon... If they want to attract the locals/AP holders Spectros return would be the way to do it!

Isn't the 24 hours thing a rumor, still?
It would only be cool if it was open 24 hours once a week, or something. If it is only 1 day out of the entire year, that's only a max of like, 25k people who can actually do it, and the crowd levels would probably make it less than enjoyable for most. Also, a 24 hour day doesn't really cater to the family of 4 demographic anyway, since little Johnny isn't going to like staying up until 3am just so he can ride POTC over and over.

Rumour by name only. Remember when Star Tours first opened in Disneyland the park was open for 60 hours

I fail to see the benefit of paying $300-400 for a standard room at a WDW "deluxe" (LOL) hotel, but I understand others feel differently.

Not every promotion, event, or product is meant for everyone. For some of us, this is a dream come true. I'll be flying down just for the day, for fun. Will spend 24 hours playing in the MK. I can't think of anything more fun than riding the HM at 4am!

For a park to remain open for 24 hours at any given time, wouldn't that mean that - in reality - it would have to remain open for around 34 hours or more since the park is open 7 days a week (and a 24 hour window that begins and ends in the middle of the night would defeat the purpose)?

This is rumor ONLY.
Should be posted in the rumor section.

As I said last time I read this rumor, I doubt that it is credible.

As far as I know the Magic Kingdom never opened 24 hours.
It is my understanding a shutdown is required so that Disney can bring the trucks out to do maintenance.

OK we all really know this is more than a rumor. Disney's twitter posted it as a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT #Disney24 or something.

I think the only reason people will go is so they can say they went. Riding Haunted Mansion at 4am is no different than at 9pm...except you can't brag about riding it at 9pm as millions have done so. It's the exclusiveness of being in the park super late and being able to say "I rode this ride one time at 4am and it was cool."

Blah. I wouldn't reschedule my vacation around it or anything. If I was already down there - I'm sure I'd go for bragging rights just like everyone else. But I wouldn't fly down just to be able to say that I was there. There are some big events that I would fly down for specifically (Like Ursula takes over the parks day?? I can dream, can't I? Haha) but this is not one of them. I'm sure they'll have to add something else to the announcement because just seeing the parks/ride the rides at all hours isn't that big of a deal - but if Spectro were to return or they have special events in the parks...then I could see going (if I were a local).

It's been reported more than this thread. And say what you will about Al Lutz, but the guy is right more often than not (he has independently reported it).

I think the maintenance crew can keep their trucks away for one night. ;)

Just basing it on a 9 AM-10 PM schedule, we would be talking about 13 hours one day and 13 hours the next day, for 26 hours. Then, rather than closing at 10 PM on day one and re-opening at 9 AM on day 2, we're talking about being open for the entire time between those two days. 10 PM - 9 AM would be 11 hours. So that means that the park would be open for 37 hours straight.

On second thought, I guess it makes no difference what time the park would otherwise have closed on that first night. Fact is, it isn't closing (hypothetically), so we're basically talking about the park being open from 9 AM on day one to whatever time on day 2...we'll say 10 PM in this example, which would still end up being 37 hours.

But to say the park is "open 24 hours" is basically just a figure of speech to illustrate not closing for that night. Just as I might say I spent the entire day at the Magic Kingdom, and everyone understands that I am not literally speaking of being at the park from midnight to midnight (an entire 24 hour calendar day). That phrase simply illustrates that I was there for the greater part of the day, even if I left some time before park closing.

So then a guest could actually spend two daytime "days" in the park, with all-nighter in between those two "days," unless some sort of wristband policy went into place that would frustrate the purpose of staying through the second "day."

Unless Disney knows that the majority of guests wouldn't be nuts enough to actually spend two daytime "days" in the park with an allnighter in between. Maybe they figure that for those who can actually pull that off, then more power to 'em and they deserve to be in the park for free the next day. Kind of their version of those restaraunt challenges where if you can eat the entire meal, you get it for free, plus a T-Shirt and your picture on the wall. :ROFLOL:
