What about “unpresidented demand.” Just checked, 17 resorts have openings for Wed-Sun (aka Thanksgiving break) that includes all categories, $187-$906, including all the budgets, most moderates, and the poly and Grand. That’s not normal or expected.

If one wants a big picture, one needs to look at the big picture.

Also... if attendance is down, WDW can easily adjust the employees' schedule to match demand. That's less income, but, also less expense by not bringing everyone in or giving overtime. That's, for Disney, a benefit of the Park Reservation system.

I don't see park reservations going away. But then that makes changing park hopping rules a bit difficult, since they use the reservation system to understand how busy a park will be (and adjust CM scheduling). For better or worst, that is what they get out of reservations, and I don't see that changing.

Perhaps a simple change would be 2 hours after tapping into your first park you can hop or at 2pm even if you didn't go to your first, whichever comes first. This would do two things: ensure people go to the park they reserved for in the morning/early afternoon and spend some time there but allow them to hop earlier if they want. For those who have something come up and don't get to their original park in the AM, it relieves the issue with needing to tap in there first before you can hop. They could even do this with a simple push notification letting you know when you are eligible to hop based on when you tapped in (or at 2PM).

What this could also do is essentially remove the park reservation system after 2PM. This is because anyone with a Hopper (including AP) would be able to "Hop" after 2PM. Then, if ever got to the point of needing to do phased closures, only those that had a reservation to the park could get in.

Thanksgiving week and Christmas week the resorts typically do have significant occupancy. I've always thought it was Disney out pricing the guest demand but that might be semi intentional.

I do wonder if the over pricing is done on purpose allowing Team Disney Faith to be able to take off without having to worry about the resorts that will now have the flexibility of vacancy to address any issues that might occur.

Christmas week is always the busiest week of the year for the theme parks and yet for the resorts it almost always has significant occupancy.

According to the Resort Guest/Ticket Theme Park Reservation calendars, it appears more availability has been added over the next few days. The 26th and 28th currently only show Magic Kingdom unavailable.
