Per a local blog in Waller County TX (just outside of Houston):

Texas-Themed Attraction Targets 2018 Grand Opening
Waller County, Texas – The Fields Store real estate community received a much needed boost this week when a Fields Store Community real estate broker announced that they are close to inking a deal on a 6,400 acre tract to The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) for a planned Texas-themed attraction.

The land sale abuts Three Mile Creek to the south, with over four miles of frontage on FM 1488. The planned park would remain largely forested even after development, according to officials.

A new Texas-themed park, tentatively identified as “Longhorn Park” could open as early as 2018, according to sources close to the negotiations. It would be Disney’s first new

project in the US since 1971. Currently Disney operates theme parks in Florida and California in the United States, as well as parks in Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

“Our vision for Waller County is to serve as a world-class convention and visitor destination, and this partnership with Disney is one more step in that direction,” said a spokesperson. “We look forward to bringing the Disney Magic to America’s Hometown.”

Walt Disney Company officials were not immediately available for comment.

Both parties were characteristically tight-lipped during the negotiations, which have been rumored to be ongoing for several years. Only when the agreement has been signed and papers filed with the Waller County Clerk will sources close to the deal go public.

I like this quote:

"It would be Disney’s first new project in the US since 1971"

I live 20 minutes from there, and this would be amazing. It has been rumored in the area for quite some time, but never had much info about it. How about a Marvel Park here!!

There's a reason these rumors keep popping up year after year. There's clearly pent-up demand for a Disney vacation site in the middle of the country, and the largest warm-weather population center between the coasts is a natural fit.

This is almost certainly bogus, but I kinda wish it weren't. When SeaWorld decided where to build parks, they went with Orlando, San Diego, and...San Antonio. What do they know that Disney doesn't?

As amazing as it would be to see a park like this... I have a feeling this is a fake article especially with some of the quotes mentioned... nevertheless I got a little chuckle out of this.

There also used to be one in Aurora, Ohio, of all places! :)...

...key worlds there are used to be. :(

Looks to me like its a fake...I found another article, that mentions it being in the woodlands, it is almost word for word with what this guy has posted with the exception of location.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands real estate community received a much needed boost this week when the Township announced that they closed on the sale of 1,300 acres to The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) for a planned Texas-themed attraction.

The land sale abuts the Spring Creek Greenway north of the newly developed Village of Creekside park, and would remain largely forested even after development, according to Township officials.

A new Texas-themed park, tentatively identified as “Frontierland Texas” could open as early as 2013, according to sources close to the negotiations. It would be Disney’s first new greenfield park construction
project in the US since 1971. Currently Disney operates theme parks in Florida and California in the United States, as well as parks in Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

“Our vision for The Woodlands is to serve as a world-class convention and visitor destination, and this partnership with Disney is one more step in that direction,” said Fran Price of the Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We look forward to bringing the Disney Magic to America’s Hometown.”

Walt Disney Company officials were not immediately available for comment.

Both parties were characteristically tight-lipped during the negotiations, which have been rumored to be ongoing for several years. Only when the agreement had been signed and papers filed with Montgomery County officials did sources close to the deal go public.

A joint news conference hosted by The Woodlands Township Board of Directors and officials of The Walt Disney Company is slated for Monday morning at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott. Architectural drawings of the theme park attraction are expected to be unveiled.

Are Americans getting that lazy that a park on each coast isn't enough? ;)

And Texas? With its penchant for brutal heat, wildfires and tornadoes? Pass.

If you live in Texas, Florida and California are pretty long trips. I was fortunate to live 3 1/2 hours by car from Orlando as a kid. If the nearest Disney World had been in Texas, we'd have never been able to afford a trip.

And you can make anywhere sound awful by focusing on a few geographical anomalies. Florida: brutal heat, sinkholes, hurricanes, bad drivers. California: earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides...and Tom Cruise.

If you're in Texas you're not further from Florida than the zillions of people from the NE corridor who make up a rather large percentage of the WDW demo. And you're about as far from Disneyland.

I'd say you have the best of both worlds... at least in terms of proximity to the parks. Plus, you have some very good BBQ, and Willie Nelson.

I will keep my mouth shut about everything else.

One thing that IS coming to Texas... Is Apple. The promised "Made in the USA" Macs of the future will be made/assembled largely in Texas.

EDIT:
"During his appearance before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations on Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that Apple’s “Made-in-USA” Macs will be manufactured in Texas. The Cupertino company announced its plans to produce one of its Mac lines on U.S. soil last December, but until now, it was unclear where the process would take place."
