Disney officially announces the Western Beltway Property expansion

I could care less about any of this....just happy it's "outside" the entrance gates. So it really is not "part" of WDW even though it's owned by Disney.

I feel like Debbie Downer today, but....

All of this news today seems to me like it's bringing too much of the "outside world" inside WDW. I think that's the main problem with Disneyland. It's just there, right in the middle of a city, with hotels and restaurants right up against it. And now they're letting it happen to WDW. Didn't I read that they're building a Ritz over at the Bonnet Creek resort? That's inside Disney property. I know Disney had nothing to do with it since they don't own it, but still. Now the Four Seasons golf thing, and now this "retail center." It all sounds a little too "real world" for me.

Just when I thought Disney couldn't get more expensive - here comes The Four Seasons...

The Bonnet Creek area is inside the gates. This stuff is going into the Osprey & Eagle golf courses (near Port Orleans, on property) and near the new Western Beltway (just off property)

Thanks, I knew that but was confused by the "outside the gates" comments.

I do now see there is another thread for the 4 Seasons project.

But you are not the only one bummed by this type of development.

I know many don't think much of Walt's vision anymore, but when he said this...

There's enough land here to hold all of the ideas and plans we could possibly imagine.

...I don't think either of these are the types of things he had in mind.

It's not actually in Bonnet Creek, but rather the former Bonnet Creek Golf Club. Bonnet Creek is the parcel of land that WDW Property eats, but is not owned by Disney. Bonnet Creek Golf Club was the OLD name for the Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge Golf Club, inbetween Port Orleans Riverside and Fort Wilderness.

Yes it will be serviced by Disney Transportation, will be another but nicer version of Downtown Disney. See plan artist rendering pic I have for project below.:D Oh by the way just outside the gates is not what you think. It will be on property just like DD.Outside the gates basically means before the Welcome Signs you pass under entering Disney off Western Way or 536.

First off, I'm surprised with all the rumors we discuss here, that neither the announcement of the 2 new Disney ships last week, this project or the new Four Seasons weren't discussed at all as happening anytime soon  Perhaps Disney finally is finding a way to keep the lid on some announcements (even if it was known DCL would expand and that the Western Way project was being planned) ;).

I'm not a fan of the outside world invading the property. The thing I hate most about DTD is that the high rise hotels nearby are visible from while in the Marketplace. I know they have been there since the very early years of the resort and overall it isn't a big deal, but it still would be nicer if they weren't there.

However, I think this Western Way project will serve that last needed reason for guests to never leave Disney property.

There are few, if any places, on property to go for groceries, everyday clothing, including the "essentials", or other various oddities that require you to go off property. If they could include a pharmacy or walk-in clinic at this site too, then almost everything would be covered :) Being "outside the gates", it will give the impression it is not on Disney property, but the fact that I believe it is on property owned by Disney and the layout is being designed by Disney (from the sound of the press release) it will insure that it is a safe and pleasant place to do that type of shopping. However, wasn't Cross-Roads originally planned for this type of idea?

To everyone who is not a Disney nerd (ie - most people besides us) that statement will mean "off porperty" to them.

It's going to help development along 429 the same way the initial retail/commercial center in the Hunters Creek area did for 417 back then.

The concept art looks like a cheap strip mall that could be anywhere in the south.... Im dissapointed it isnt getting a better theme... the "value hotels" in the back ground look like they could be best westerns or holiday inns.... Im not impressed but maybe when we hear more there will be something that makes it a little easier to endure. Right now I think its horribly bland and just yuck... I was hoping for a neat Asian Village Moderate resort or something of that sort... maybe our minds are starting to run a little wilder that the imagineers these days.... wheres the storytelling? we'll see
