Disney Newbie...Help with Restaurants

Our last breakfast at BOG, my girls had a crepe filled with yogurt, which they wouldn't eat because the yogurt wasn't flavored, and they said was disgusting...
I had a delicious egg and brie sandwich, however. Our breakfast was at 8:05, so we were done our breakfast at 8:45, and we got an early start in the back of the park before opening, which is the real reason I wanted to eat there in the first place.

Based on my daughters' aversion to the breakfast, I hadn't ever wanted to return to BOG for other meals, however our last time in the park, I got a 2:00 lunch reservation, and we each only ordered a cupcake with the "grey stuff", and used it as a mid-afternoon snack, rather than a lunch. As the song says, the grey stuff WAS delicious...

So there are some places where you can eat and get in the park earlier than it opens? Which ones have this option?

50s Prime Time has comfort food really. They play with you there and tease about elbows on the table and eating your veggies.
Don't go to the 50's Prime Time if you're trying to stay anonymous. We checked in for our dinner and were told it would be a few minutes, so we stepped over to the lounge for a sit and maybe a drink.

Two minutes later, we hadn't even had time to check out the drink menu, a very loud, screeching voice yelled out, "LarryZ, your table is ready!"

And I mean very loud. And very screechy.

Any restaurant that takes reservations. The earliest they open is 8am. If the park is opening that morning at 8am, no advantage. But if it's opening at 9am, then you get in the park up to an hour early, which is pretty cool!

Any of the restaurants in the parks. Most days with out EMH, the parks open at 9; any reservation before 9:00 will get you into the park early. MK - Cinderella's Royal Table and Be Our Guest. Crystal Palace as well, but guests are now allowed into the HUB prior to 9 am opening, so you don't get any further into the park than the other guests. DHS - I know HOllywood and Vine allows this, not sure if any others. Epcot - Akershus, Garden Grill, not sure of others Animal Kingdom - Tusker House, not sure of others

However, I believe these pre-park opening time slots are highly sought after, so will be difficult to secure the reservations.

Yea my original inclination was to do the sit-down meals/character meals for dinner time to free us up during the day. Or is there anything as a breakfast that is worth not missing?

For Breakfast my kids always enjoyed the character breakfast at the Grand Floridian, then hopping the monorail to the magic Kingdom. We've done breakfast at the Crystal Palace but did not think much of the food.

The only breakfast that I would say is worth not missing is Kona Cafe. It is not a character meal, but it is the stuff of legend around these parts with their tonga toast and strawberry compote, or my favorite, the pineapple/macadamia nut pancakes. We try to get the last breakfast seating at 11am so we can go to the MK from opening til 10:30, then catch the monorail over there for "brunch."

Hollywood and Vine would be good if for no other reason than dining options at Hollywood Studios are pretty limited especially for quick service if that would be the backup plan. If you think your kids won't sit for a non-character meal, my trick (without kids) is to get a meal "to go" from one of the table service places, especially 50's Prime Time. It's ready very fast and you don't lose much time in the park. You do lose out on the theming, but sometimes that is better than waiting 2 hours for a table when hungry. It's at least a good backup plan.

My top recco is Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom!! I've been for both lunch and dinner and both were great! Dinner was fabulous. We really enjoyed the table service and I loved the wine menu exclusive to the restaurant. Lunch was obviously more casual (it's counter service for lunch) but we all really enjoyed our sandwiches. It's just louder and busier so it didn't feel as elegant but if that's all you can get or you want to save some money, go for it! The themeing is beautifully done. It's easily my favorite restaurant I've ever been to (not just in Disney either)!

Though a word to the OP, the menu will be changing shortly, for dinner anyway, and it will be a prix fixe menu (not an all you care to eat menu, though, choice of appetizer, entree and dessert). And it will become a 2-credit restaurant (again, for dinner) if you're on the dining plan, and I believe the prices will be around $35 for under-10, $55 for over 10.

Yeah that's really disappointing, when I heard about the prix fixe I thought it was just an option. Disney takes advantage sometimes that I just don't understand.
I don't want to derail this thread, or get into an argument, but I think this is being done in response to the guests who make a dinner reservation and then just order dessert in order to meet the Beast. It could be argued, but again I'm not looking to argue, that the people taking up a table that could have been used for guests wanting (and willing to pay for) a full dinner, just to order the least expensive item and get in on a meet and greet opportunity were the ones taking advantage.

Tusker House has characters at every meal and is fab - great character interactions, entertainment & fantastic food! They also do a ROL dining package, although would mean an early dinner.

Hollywood and Vine has been abysmal the last couple of times I have been - Food is terrible - would not recommend!

For your Hollywood Studios day, have you considered the character breakfast at Trattoria on the Boardwalk? I have not been but have seen many good reviews - you can then hop on the friendship boat to the studios!

I can offer a recommendation for breakfast at Chef Mickey's and lunch at Crystal Palace.

From experience in 2015, both were excellent all round. Great food and loads of fun character interactions.

Also did Mickey’s backyard bbq: event was great fun, food not quite as good as the others.
