I did a thread search and came up with nothing so here is my question.

Is the last name "Disney" just so extremely uncommon that you do not see it in society, or is there alot of "Disney's" out there and they remain relatively sequestered. Just wondering.....

I just did a search on namestatistics.com and came up with this:

disney is the #8400 most common last name.
0.001% of last names in the US are disney.
Around 2500 US last names are disney.

Wow, more than I thought, though still very few comparitively. Still, I'd actually hate to have the last name "Disney" and not be related to THAT Disney family. I'd have to answer the same question all of my life as to whether I was a part of that family.

Edit: I just thought about it, and there are more than 2500 people at my college, so that really isn't many at all.

Thanks!

And I also had a thought...

I don't know a whole lot of info about the Disney family, but Walt himself had only daughters, yes? Once they get/got married, they changed last names, leaving future generations without the Disney name. Did Roy have male children to continue the name?

They're probably related, just not closely. Someone in my family did a pretty extensive family tree and it was interesting to find out how many 48573rd cousins 367 times removed I have out there.

Well, six degrees of separation, I suppose. And, depending on your beliefs, we're all ultimately related to each other from waaaaaaaay back in the beginning...

Speaking of which, I'm still waiting on the invitation to the family reuniion! ;)

I'm sure there are a few male Disney's still around... And, Walt's daughters kinda kept their last names (like, Dianne Disney-Miller)

I found this tidbit on a biography of Roy E. Disney.

Married in 1955 to Patricia Ann Dailey, Disney is the father of four children -- Roy Patrick, Susan Margaret, Abigail Edna and Timothy John Disney. He is the grandfather of 13.

So he has two sons who have the name and 13 grandchildren.

Just out of curiosity, I searched my own surname on namestatistics.com. It came up as #844 with about 35000 of US last names. It happens to be another household name other than Disney ---- SEARS. And yes I have always had to answer the dreaded "Are you related?" and "how much money do you have?" I have to answer "yes I am related - I'm a first cousin, four times removed" and "No money, because Richard Sears sold out to Roebuck, and also, cousins usually don't inherit squat " But also an interesting note, here in south Georgia, there are many Sears' around, but I'm not related to any of them (except my parents and my dad's older brother). They all belong to a whole different Sears family.

Campbell is the #46 most common last name.
0.149% of last names in the US are Campbell.
Around 372500 US last names are Campbell!

So I guess there are plenty of us out there. And I too get the same question all the time, "Are you related to the soup people?" As far as I'm aware of, no. Monetary value...I guess you could say we're a Campbell in that sense. :animwink:

Ouch. More girls/women are named Michael than there are people with the last name Disney...
