Murder at Fantasyland
On this lovely afternoon in the Magic Kingdom., a young blonde boy wearing red clothing much too big for himself stumbles is standing in front of the Enchanted Carousel, with Cinderella's Castle framing him from behind. He tries to get the attention of the crowd about the daily sword-pulling event, to no avail.
From the left, an old wizard wearing long periwinkle robes strokes his impressively long white beard. Touching his wand to his throat, he proclaims:
Merlin: "May I have your attention please?"
The crowd quiets down.
"Thank you."
Merlin: *clears his throat* " Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts..."
Arthur: *laying a hand aside his mouth* "Psst, Merlin! Wrong castle... We're in the Magic Kingdom, remember?"
Merlin: "Of course I know where we are, Wart. Just a spot of levity to start the day. Besides, *in a stage whisper* I've always wanted to say that!
*looking at the crowd* Now, who among you cares to test your mettle and try to pull out the Sword in the Stone? Come, come, now! Don't be shy; why, even the boy here can do it, and as you can see, Wart's naught but skin and bones! *stretches out the young boy's arm to show his apparent lack of muscles* If a scrawny urchin like Wart can do it, so can you!"
As the crowd begins to murmur appreciatively, one of the guests, wearing a hooded garment that obscures their features, starts to whisper loudly.
Mysterious Guest: "Looks like a gust of wind could knock him over... I say we let the boy try first."
The other guests agree with the mysterious guest, who has seemed to melt into the crowd. Echoes of: "Yes! Let the boy try!" ring out across the common area. Merlin pushes young Arthur towards the anvil with the stone and sword on it. Arthur seems slightly hesitant to demonstrate his ability in front of the crowd.
Merlin: "C'mon, Wart! Don't be shy!"
Arthur rolls up his sleeves, licks his lips once, and then grasps the sword with all of his might. As he pulls the sword clean out of the stone, suddenly he cries out.
Arthur: "Merlin! Help!"
Suddenly, Arthur's sword begins to attack him. As he tries to dodge the blows, he runs up to the entrance of the carousel. Before Merlin can intervene, sadly, the sword connects and the poor boy collapses.
Merlin: *pointing his wand at the enchanted sword* "Finite Incantatum!"
The sword falls, and Merlin rushes to young Arthur's side. "Wart! Are you alright? Arthur?"
Arthur: *groaning* "Mer..." before he lapses into unconsciousness.
From out of thin air appears an elderly woman dressed in a blue robe. She bends over the boy and begins to check his vital signs.
Fairy Godmother: *tsk tsk* "It's a good thing the boy has a fairy godmother... He certainly needs one." Before you can say "bibbidi bobbidi boo", she whisks him away in a puff of magic to the first aid station.
Merlin: *examining the sword* "Just as I suspected, someone has placed a Confundus charm on old Excalibur. Until we find out who tried to kill the boy who would be King, no one leaves Fantasyland. I will be appointing two detectives to look into the matter. In the meantime, I must find a way to revive Arthur. Come, Archimedes... we have work to do."
A small brown owl alights upon his left shoulder, hooting worriedly.
Before anyone can protest, he rushes off to the castle.

Great Opening. Sounds like we have a killer on the loose.....
Out of Character: One thing I found helpful was to pick a color for the character's voice, and type any OOC comments in black. That way, it makes it much easier for the other players to follow the story. Also, the detectives are to PM me first before they make an arrest. If they are correct, I will post the arrest. If they are incorrect, Archimedes will report that a suspect had been brought in, but that they were proven innocent. Have fun!
Upstairs in Cinderella's Castle, Merlin paces furiously while his owl Archimedes complains. A crumpled note lies on the floor, which reads:
"Dear Merlin,
Sounds like someone's sick. How lovely. I do hope it's serious. Something dreadful.
~The Magnificent, Marvelous Madam Mim.~"
Archimedes:*grouchy* "That witch! Just wait until I get a hold of her, why I'll... I'll peck her eyes out, that's what!"
Merlin: *amused* "You care for the boy, Archimedes. Admit it."
Archimedes: *folding his wings across his puffed up chest* "And so what if I do? He's not bad... for a human. A bit wet behind the ears, but not a bad sort. That Madam Mim... OOOH! I'm so upset I could just molt!"
Merlin: *sadly* "I know how you feel, old friend." *runs his hand along the blade of the sword* "I just know old Mimsy is behind this. I can feel a trace of her magic on this blade, although she must have had help. Stick out your leg."
Archimedes: "I beg your pardon! What do I look like, an owl?" *at Merlin's withering stare* "Fine. I'm an owl. But I don't have to like it one bit!"
Merlin: *finishes two letters, seals their envelopes as he talks* "Don't get your feathers in a bunch. I'll just take the next aeroplane out of Orlando..."
Archimdedes: "I'll do it. I'm the bird. If men were meant to fly..."
*together* "They'd have been born with wings."
Merlin: "They'd have been born with wings."
Merlin ties the messages to the brown owl's leg.
Merlin:"Mim's still upset with me about the malignalitaloptereosis. Serves her right for cheating in a wizard's duel... I do hope the detectives can find the culprit. I fear that it will not be simple. I wouldn't put it past her to have bewitched some poor guest into doing her dirty work for her while she's incapacitated."
Archimedes: "I agree."
*grumbling* "Flying is not just some crude, mechanical process, you know. It is a delicate art. Purely aesthetic. Poetry of motion. And the only way to learn it is to do it."
Merlin: "So do it already... we're wasting sunlight."
As the owl flies out the window, he leaves the wizard alone with his thoughts.

I didnt even get the chance to prove my worth by pulling that sword out of the stone. That prince guy was right - only my fleas will mourn me

Don't forget that the sword was enchanted to attack the first person to pull it out. *whispers* Normally, we give the person a little boost, you understand... It makes the children so happy! The person responsible for this attack calls herself Mad Madam Mim. She gives witches and fairy godparents a bad name. Sadly, it appears that the attack was the latest in an ongoing feud between her and Merlin. We just did not expect her to go after the boy."
She embraces Aladdin, pulling him up against her matronly bosom. "Don't you fret for one moment about not being good enough, you hear me? Take it from someone who knows: you are a diamond in the rough. You are perfectly wonderful the way you are... I'd offer to help you with your princess, but you do have a genie."
She greets each and every guest, then addresses the guests.
"I had hoped to get things started off on the right foot, you know. Well, some things can't be helped. This will have to do: welcome to Fantasyland. I hope you enjoy your stay. It may be lengthy, since the Cast Members have cordoned off Fantasyland from the rest of the park. No one may enter or leave the area except for Archimedes. He will be keeping you updated on our progress as the detectives attempt to apprehend the culprit. In the meantime, please try to enjoy yourselves, and stick together for your own safety." *vanishes abruptly to check on Arthur's symptoms*
