Disney Mountain

I just learned about a major multi-billion dollar project that was going to get built in 1986 in the area known today where the EPCOT Resorts are (between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios). This 15-level man-made mountain was going to include dozens and dozens of hotels, attractions, “underground” parking, shopping, etc. would even include a Personal Rapid Transit Automated People Mover running horizontally on one of its floors, bridge walkways connecting the mountain’s many “islands” on another floor.

It didn’t last long. Prior to this it was "Disney Center" and just after became the Epcot resort area.

A 1984 resort and entertainemt plan for the area. I believe it surpassed the “mountain” proposal though, not the other way round. Information as you’ll appreciate is quite scarce.
What was the plan I saw that would have basically replaced greenbelt on World Drive with a water belt?

I don’t know you’ll have to post it. The only thing I know of that would have moved World Drive was 1977s EPCOT Center.
I don’t know the name of it, but it basically would have flooded the World Drive area, creating canals and bridges in centric circles, similar to how Plato described Atlantis. It was from the 80’s. I posted it a few years ago. I would have to search for it.

I’d date that around 1979/80. It seems to be very blue sky.

Note the Asian and possibly the Venetian. And also the seven seas expansion.
I really hope that one day they would open an Imagineering museum to showcase every grand unbuilt WDW plan! There’s so many epic unbuilt plans that it’s worth putting them all in a permanent show building. There’s probably more cancelled WDW projects than there have been cancelled NASA projects lol!

What more do you know of Disney Center?

I’m living in Israel now and can’t make weekend runs to WDW any more, which is something I’m actually starting to miss. The last Disney parks I went to were Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios a few months ago. I felt like it was a collection of the “best of” the State-side parks, which was a little disappointing. I’m now planning on a trip to Tokyo in August. I can’t wait to see Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySeas!
