Disney/MGM Studios Expansion

As we all know the most reliable information about future projects at WDW can be had from anyone in transportation

In May a Friendship captain told all the passengers to be sure and see the Indiana Jones Stunt show at MGM because it would be closing soon to make way for the Indiana Jones ride from Disneyland.

Later that day I asked the CMs in the Indiana Jones shop when the stunt show would be closing and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Well, for one, friendship captains are not transportation cast members, but rather attractions and operations CM's.

And second, Indy will be closing, its just a matter of time.

Eh... don't know how much breath I would hold for Harry. Personally, I want the see Maroon Studios get built. That would really add a ton to the park. It would be even cooler if they did the main street area of it all indoors like Disney Studios, only with a much more cartoony feel.

Pardon me... I'm gonna go watch Roger Rabbit now.

I wish WDC would just buy out Amblin's stake in Roger Rabbit...this is one of the greatest characters created in the last 30 years, and he just sits on a shelf, waiting to be used.

This will never happen....."Wishes" lied to me!

Nah...Indy won't "close". Disney doesn't close attractions. It will be upgraded by a new Indiana Jones Adventure attraction ;) Time for a new set, I'd say.

2.Fantasmic Area. It is an awfully long walk to the theatre. But a lake, backstage and ToT seem to take up the most space.

That's all MGM backlot area that is critical for running ToT, and the shops on Sunset & Hollywood Bulevard.

Since when?

I think then I will go to the WDW today and ride the World of Motion, followed by Horizons, then over to the MK to experience Alien Encounter, back to Epcot to go on Body Wars and Cranium Command (maybe even a showing of "Making of Me")

Tomorrow I will ride the Discovery boats at DAK, and maybe go to MGM for the Backstage Pass tour, or the Hunchback Show....

Anyone know what time the Fort Wilderness railroad runs until? I want to hit River Country and Discovery Island this trip!

Shortly after it opened...

Disney had intended the park to be completed in a single day however guests expressed their expectation of a multi-day experience like EPCOT and MK, despite the common complaint at the time that EPCOT took too long to experience! Shows that people do not necessarily know what they want.

Shortly after Disney MGM opened they started the expansions (I was working in CRO at the time and casual pool'ing at Disney MGM) with the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playset and Little Mermaid. I was picked to assist the marketing team with surveys and was allowed to attend the meeting where results were shared with WDI representatives. Some of the ides immediately put on the table by WDI were expanding out into the employee and gues parking lots, out toward the existing Tower of Terror and Fantasmic, and over World Drive.

I wonder if it would be feasible to actually build on top of World drive. As in the Cars going under the shops, rides, and restaurants. Kinda like an Oasis or how Autopia is over the Subs at Disneyland.

I said Disney does not close attractions, which they don't. Rides stop operating without official word that they are closed, and the only announcement we get is that something is replacing it. For example, SuperStar Limo never closed, but it won't reopen and it's getting a replacement. 20K didn't close until a few months ago when they decided to rip it out to make way for something in the future. Disney doesn't like to use the word "closed" b/c that would lead guests to believe they are getting less for their money. "Replaced" or "upgraded" are the words of choice. That was my point.

that might be a little dangerous, and not really necessary. The Disneyland Resort has a bridge over Disneyland Drive in the middle of Downtown Disney, and unless you are looking for it, you don't notice that you are passing over the road. The problem with putting a bridge over a road is that it creates an easy place to sneak into the park (not a problem at Downtown Disney, of course--no entrance fee). That's why the plan to extend the park into the current parking lot and build a new parking lot elsewhere makes more sense. Sending trams over (or under) World Drive is much easier and safer to do.

Is that like the government not using the word "recession"

Let's just replace the word "closed" with the word "banana"

Discovery River Cruise is currently banana
Alien Encounter is also banana
Backstage Pass....banana
MK Skyway ride...also banana
Horizons...banana

.....

whatever makes Disney more money, I am for ;) If Horizons has to go banana to make Disney more money for new rides, then I say...banana away!

Any word on what exactly is being talked about as possible attractions for a possible expansion?

Eh, not really.
Indy is the closest to moving forward, and last I heard it still has a ways to go.
Of course, the old reliables are still tossed around...R. Rabbit, a version of Toontown, Armageddon, etc.
I hear everything BUT Harry Potter.

not neccesarily. Have you been back there before?

if they removed the B&tB show [which is nothing worth saving.. there is plenty of room for a decent sized E-ticket actually, or a smaller sized D-ticket if you left the theater where it is.]

I'd say this is a perfect spot for expansion..... but then again, the last thing we need is another popular attraction on sunset blvd...

perhaps if they put an attraction in that location, its entrance could be on Hollwood Blvd, near the entrance to the park.

hmm... true, but I don't know... that just doesnt seem like it would feel right.. thats like an attraction Bam- right there in the middle of mainstreet USA... or BAM an attraction right in the middle of AK's oasis.. or BAM a---- oh wait, epcot does... but then again it's the park's icon... a new attraction off to the side of hollywood blvd couldn't be the landmark attraction because we already have the GMR... do you see what I'm getting at?

it was a good idea none-the-less considering the fact that there aren't many other options.

Well the Magic Kingdom used to have an attraction right at the entrance and Disneyland does right now. But maybe another street could be constructed to help ease traffic to and from Sunset Blvd.

Well...I don't care too much for a Potter attraction either way...should be interesting to see what happens...as always, thanks for the 411 Lee...
