Here now. Mask compliance isn’t what it was back in May, and especially not like last December (we saw CMs harassing a little girl who must have just turned two for not wearing a mask). There was zero spacing at Citricos last night with another couple seated three feet from us.

It’s nice to see that CMs don’t have to wear masks outside.

Having been tested semi-regularly (despite being fully vaxxed), I can anecdotally state that the amount of discomfort you feel is almost entirely dependent on the person doing the swab. I’ve had some people keep the thing in there for barely a second, while others poke around for a lot longer. Some of them barely stick the thing up my nose, others go right for my brain. There’s a very wide discrepancy in how people collect the sample.
The discrepancy is the type of test being done.

Unrelated to Disney but thought I would share:

Went to get my annual physical this morning. The doctor's office requires masks. While I was filling out paper work, two people walked in with no masks. Walked to the check-in desk and told the lady that one of them needs to be seen because they have had a migraine for the past 4 days. Not sure if this is one of the current symptoms but I was like, 'whut??'. Then "Danger Zone" came on the radio.

I hear you Kenny Loggins, I hear you.

In the Orlando area, yes.

That data would be extremely difficult to collect without much more rigorous contact tracing.
Yeah I agree it could never be proven where anyone catches covid anyways but I do know a few who have posted elsewhere about testing positive for covid after returning from WDW since the new mask policy was put in place as well

Very good article and really it is absolute common sense. Blows my mind that some can't seem to understand it.
This is the study where they didn't have a control group to compare the masked students! How can you not compare the masked students with ones not wearing masks?? "Because North Carolina had a mask mandate for all K-12 schools, we could not compare masked schools to unmasked schools."

So they compare that group with a group of students in Israel and posted that data.

So we returned from WDW last Thursday and in my view, the mask policy is purely for theater. For example, having masks required on Magic Carpets of Aladdin or Jungle Cruise, yet asking everyone to fill all available spaces in indoor theaters makes no sense. Also, the PotC store does not require masks because it has no door? Disney is not making any difference with their policies and is only impeding on the vacation with mask police randomly telling people to mask up. We even saw the mask police forcing a crying 3 year old to put one on or leave the line at Test Track. Kept ripping it off.

🙄
Masks are required indoors. Florida is breaking records daily. Wear it or dont go, arguing over the semantics of it is tiring at this point.

Not really. You mentioned the Pirates gift shop. There are trees growing in the middle of it and it will rain into the shop. It’s not exactly what I would call indoors.
Regardless of Disney's definition of what indoors or outdoors is or why completely outdoor attractions require masks, we will not be returning until masks are a thing of the past and more entertainment returns (character M&G, parades, Hoop De Doo, Indiana Jones, etc...) The mask enforcement (especially watching a 3 year old screaming when being forced to put one on) was not a very magical aspect of visiting Disney World right now. We were married in WDW back in 2006 at the Wedding Pavilion and the WDW of today is so different in so many ways it is not as magical for us to visit right now as we expect. (Masks only being one aspect).

Everyone can have their own view on Disney's mask policy and some like masks, some don't mind masks and others really do not like them (me). Until they are not a part of the world we live in and more entertainment (value) returns, we will choose a vacation destination (likely beach trips) that do not feel like I aways have someone watching me and my every move and forcing me to put one on.

Yeah… visiting in the middle of a pandemic is sure to be a lot different than getting married in 2006. I honestly don’t know what you expected. Disney world is not immune to reality as much as some here would like to think it does.

The rules on the masks changed the week before we left for our vacation.

When visiting Universal during the first few days of vacation, the trip we experienced was excellent and exactly what we had hoped for. Unfortunately for us, when we switched resorts to WDW for the latter half, we experienced the kind of WDW we wished we had not. So for our vacation, Universal was much more enjoyable than our WDW trip during the same week. It was not until we were on WDW property that we saw just how much different it would end up being.

I am not saying it was a terrible vacation, but we will not be repeating the vacation we just experienced. We are still big Disney fans and made some fun memories, we are just not going to Disney World again until things change for the better and the pandemic has subsided.

Disney has not yet updated their website, but the site that can't be named is reporting that starting tomorrow, Disney will make masks optional for outdoor queues, outdoor attractions and outdoor theaters.

What I received from Disney:
Since May, face coverings have been optional for Guests in outdoor common areas, and beginning Thursday, August 19, face coverings will also be optional for Guests in outdoor attractions, outdoor queues and outdoor theaters at Walt Disney World Resort. As a reminder, face coverings remain required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) while indoors and in Disney buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status.
