I think it was made clear, the CDC has specific recommendations of a threshold where masks can be removed, until now that's what Disney has been following. It had just barely got into that point in Orange county in December, and then Omicron showed up.
Disney has been using this guideline, BUT, I dont think they will this time.

For 2 reasons:

1) It might take another month or 2 or longer for OC to get to that guideline and they wont wait that long if there is no new strain out there.
2) They now have back cover from all of these other states that are dropping their mask mandates and not going along with the CDC.

IMO, last week, Vegas casinos dropping their masks opened the door up for everyone.

Mike let me put this the plainest way I can.

No one is listening to CDC guidance anymore because it is stupid.

While that is your opinion on the CDC guidelines, they have been the core guiding principles Disney has used for coming up on 2 years now and that’s not likely to change, no matter the opinions of individual guests. The CDC guidance coordinated with local government sets the policy for the properties. Disney employs medical professionals that use these to set company policy.

Don't get me wrong - I think there are elements of the FDA and CDC guidance that has been ridiculous (the latest quarantine / isolation guidance bring one of them, the way they've conducted the pediatric trials, etc.). But what I was saying is this was the benchmark that Disney had been using. Whether they continue to or not is an open question.

Disney will be following the CDC. They will say anyone not up yo date with vaccination should mask. Here is the current CDC guideline:

This post isn't a pro or con for the great mask debate. My biggest grievance with Disney is there actions haven't show evidence on what criteria needs to happen for their mask policy. This makes planning a trip very stressful for both sides of the argument. Who are in favor of the mask, and those who are against it. Universal timeline makes sense. They restore the policy when COVID rates were high, now removed said policy when it's low again. Disney criteria is hidden that makes me feel like Charlie from It's always Sunny. I live in Maine, many towns reinstated masks but since dropped it. They said they would revisit the issue if COVID rates go up again. I'm okay with that because I know the criteria. This helps me psychology too. For example, your driving endless for hours. It feels longer because you don't know how long the trip is.

My guess, it'll be in March. Why? Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser? Or, during the warmer months. I think that's why this thread has countless of posts, we don't know what Disney is thinking or their criteria regarding mask.

It’s a lot simpler than that. Disney is unionized, Universal is non-unionized. Disney’s union agreement requires they go to the unions preceding any change to the masking policy.

The SCTU in FL is a pushover. The many, many unions in CA are more “active”. Disney doesn’t like making this stuff any more public than they have to, hence the opacity.

I get that everyone is done with masks, but not everyone is going to be super happy about removing the mask mandate. We currently have a trip planned for April, as we assumed that vaccines for our 4-year-old would be approved by then. But with the news this week, it looks like that's not going to be the case.

I think I'd be okay with either all of us vaccinated, or a continued indoor mask mandate at the parks. However, I'm not sure how I feel about no vaccine for my 4-year-old and no masks, so I'm seriously thinking about whether to cancel our trip.

On the other hand, they're also removing masks in schools here in Massachusetts at the end of the month, so there's a better than even chance that he'll catch covid sometime before April trip anyway. Wife and I are waxed and boostered, DS 11 is 2x vaxed with Pfizer... So we'll see, probably hold on to the trip for now and see what happens. But it is added a lot of anxiety to a trip that we mentally desperately need.

The “elsewhere chance” played a massive role in my decision to transition back to “normal” life.

I isolated, only ran to the store when absolutely necessary, sanitized constantly, masked religiously, avoided coming close to anyone, etc for most of 2020 but when work (casino) announced we were reopening my whole outlook changed overnight. The first thing I did was book a trip to WDW for the next month, my logic was if I’m going to be around thousands of people a day at work it didn’t make much sense to avoid fun things like Disney anymore, or even avoid simple things like running to the store for no reason.

It’s amazing how much outside influences affect our decision making process. It would be ideal to have everyone vaxxed so in that regard I wouldn’t fault you for rebooking, but I also wouldn’t fault you for going since you’re all going to be exposed somewhere anyway, whether school or work or elsewhere, I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer.

I've had three Moderna shots, and only wear a mask where required which is virtually no where here in NJ.
I tested positive on Thursday, walked 5 miles around the Mansasquan Reservoir on Friday, and went for an 11 mile bike ride on the Henry Hudson Trail on Saturday.
I like knowing I'm positive, and feel nothing.
It beats living in fear, of what catching omicron might feel like.
Now... I very likely might get a fourth shot, if the evidence supports that I should at the time.
But, 'till then I'm going to hope things don't take a turn for the worse - and enjoy life as it is now.
I had one JNJ shot about 1 year ago. Got it a few weeks ago. No really symptoms. Don’t really think about it anymore. Having it and getting over it really moves you past it. I e wondered if because probably more than half of Americans have had it this is why the change in sentiment for the general population.

At the end of the day if you still want to wear a mask even if the mandate is no longer in place then you should be able to without anyone getting on your case about it. You may think I'm being a bit dramatic, but, reading the comments on here from some of the people I am concerned that if I choose to wear a mask and let's not forget many Japanese guests have worn masks for years at the parks, that I will have someone come up to me and give me grief about it. I'm hoping I'm worrying over nothing, but, since Covid has been politicised so much you never can tell. If I wear a mask I can promise you it's not for political reasons.

Is that true? I don't think it is. I believe they need union agreement for the employee masking policy to be changed but not the guest policy.

I think that WDW and the University of Miami basketball arena may be the only two entertainment/leisure venues in FL that still require masking. If they don't change it by the end of college basketball season then it will be the only one.

If Disney listened to the CDC and their guidelines the masks would have been dropped in September when OC hit the yellow level of moderate then the blue levels of low. Instead they did nothing

NOBODY knows what they use or if or when they’ll change anything

Saying guests who are fully vaccinated no longer have to wear masks but having no way to verify who is actually following those rules basically translates to we don’t care anymore and it’s up to the individual to make their own decision and protect themselves however they wish but this is a good way of saying it and still looking ok publicly.

Disney…we are waiting on you now
