In a situation like that it's likely impossible to trace back to find a "patient zero", but I just edited my post to add the stat that a few days ago 69% of the positive cases were in fully-vaccinated people.

So yes, it's not inconceivable that the vaccinated caught it from the unvaccinated.

Ok sorry I was under the assumption that contact tracing was easy and accurate.

When I was told that no cases came out of peoples school district, they told me they knew this for sure because of contact tracing.

the cynical side of me says yes too, but the logical wonders how much they really could know. It seems like they could know:
  • what park
  • crowd flows with the long range readers of MB (general area)
  • Ride/show entrance/exit times
  • Ride vehicle person is on
  • Restaurant entrance times
If all those data points can be put together, who knows. My point is - it’s theoretically possible wdw could assemble a model tracing system. Will they ever try that, no. But keep trying to personalize other experiences.

Most other systems that rely on tech just measure time and location, then cross the duration at a time/location when the database is tagged with a gps history of an exposure. Pretty simplistic on that side.

Wow, This thread went off the rails.

Based on the new cdc guidance, my bet is there will be no changes at wdw other than perhaps "recommending" everyone mask up indoors. Personally I have decided to wait another year until my kids can get vaccinated. I've seen too many people die or have serious covid complications to be able to enjoy Disney with unvaccinated kids and no precautions being taken.

They're a Federal entity, right? Not much surprise there.

I do a lot of work for TVA in Chattanooga. Another Federal entity that established indoor masks again today. Needless to say, I'll be avoiding the Chattanooga Office Complex in the near future.

It’s surprising to me that Disney didn’t immediately announce a change in policy. This can’t have caught them unawares.

Regarding KSC, the "Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is operated for NASA by Delaware North and is entirely visitor-funded." So while the KSC isn't technically Federal, it's being operated on behalf of a Federal agency, so a change to its mask policy isn't surprising, given the CDC changes in recommendation.

I assume they really don't want to. Insisting on masks is harder for most guests, cast members, and anyone else. They'll do it to save face if they must, but I assume they'd really like to keep the current status-quo.

You’re misunderstanding me. What I find surprising isn’t the Kennedy Space Center’s swiftness to act, but Disney’s slowness. I expected an announcement last night or this morning.

Whereas I assume a change in policy is inevitable. I think it would be a PR disaster for Disney is they disregarded the CDC’s revised guidelines.

In my opinion, what happens with mask requirements at the parks will be all about the numbers; if cases, hospitalizations and deaths continue to trend upward over time, masks will be back...

You think there will be a immediate price increase on masks at the parks like when they came out with the environmentally friendly shopping bags?

I think a swift response would be perceived as "knee jerk". Right now, that's a CDC recommendation. I think they're waiting on what the OC Mayor does first.

That part of the discussion was specifically comparing contact tracing in schools, where you know exactly who is in attendance, with contact tracing in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where there is no organized record of who is where when. I haven't been there in decades, but to my knowledge it's still a summertime vacation haven with an active, crowded, night life and a lot of out of state guests passing through. No one is wearing a magicband or taking attendance.

Disney has not taken the lead on messaging or mitigation one single time during this whole debacle, why would they move swiftly now? They have been following precedent set by Universal and others with almost every change.
