From the UK today.

Sixty percent of people being admitted to hospital with COVID-19 have had two doses of a coronavirus vaccine, according to the government's chief scientific adviser.

You know what's funny?
Uhhhhh…is this a mountain over a mole hill thing?
No..not really. Just sharing some info...people can interpret it any way they would like. I find it interesting that there appears to be some seasonality behind it. But, of course, one would need to go further than just a simple chart to determine this.

Sometimes, vaccines are pretty awesome. Anyways, here is the 2 week trend line for the US right now...just to put things in perspective.

Now focus in on roughly the last 2 months

So, I try to stay out of mask conversations because it always just opens a can of worms. That said, I am a pharmacist. I vaccinate people daily. My family (those of age) is vaccinated. However, do I still wear a mask in public? YEP. The people coming to get their shots 99% of the time are not wearing masks and have to be provided one in order to receive their shot.

In my opinion, the reason you can't go to an "only unvaccinated" must wear masks is because too many who should won't, which is technically where we are at in my state. Only those vaccinated should be walking around with bare faces, but that's not at all what happens. I will sit there and counsel someone on their second shot that they qualify to remove their mask in 2 weeks...and then see them in the store shopping 20 minutes later without them. Unfortunately, this mentality is what is allowing so much mutation with the virus. The more hosts it jumps to, the more mutations are able to come out. If we could rely on the unvaccinated population to wear masks, the discussion wouldn't even need to be had. Then, there are the people who go through the drive thru for symptomatic COVID testing (and to specify, this is not a rapid test...they will find out in a few days) and then come into the store to do shopping and pick up a prescription at the counter. And no, this is not something that has only happened a few times.

Also, one of my techs got COVID at the beginning of this whole thing. We were all wearing masks at work. We work in, essentially, a room the size of master bedroom together for ~12 hours a day. She was the only one who got it.

I am, by no means, trying to say that all unvaccinated people wouldn't mask up. I know there are MANY who would. I'm just sharing my observations from working in a public space and providing healthcare for the past year and a half.

So you want to go back to the vaccinated folks having to wear masks again? That goes against the CDC guidelines.
Guidelines change, as the CDC's may, if Delta and other potentially vaccine-dodging variants become dominant here in the US.

I think it's a tad ironic that the same people who hold the CDC's directives in such high regard today were dismissing their mask recommendations as useless junk science a year ago.

That's fine. But it's the unvaccinated who need the mask, not the vaccinated. If there is no incentive to get a vaccine, many just won't get one. After all, that's why things are supposedly opening up at WDW because people are getting vaccinated and masks are no longer required. UNLESS the Orange County mayor requires it just as LA county in CA has. He's already one step away -- he "implores" you to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status. I wouldn't be surprised to see a re-enacted mandate by next week.
The governor has banned local leaders from making public health decisions for their communities. So this is likely the furthest they'll go. So we'll see what they do. Friday news dump?

You know what's funny?
To be clear, we're not freaking out over the current number of cases (which are roughly 10% of the winter peak); we're freaking out over where it could go.
I expect it to end around April's numbers if I am honest, then go down in the fall.

Maybe these increases will convince a chunk of the "hesitants" to suck it up and get the shot...with their 99% hospitalization rates...

It also needs to be understood that vaccinated individuals are still able to pass on the virus, which masks can go some way to reducing.
This! This is so poorly understood. I have had so many people come up to me for medication recommendations and the first question I ask is, "have you been tested?" The response is often "I've been vaccinated." I then have to remind them it's not a 100% guarantee they won't get the virus, but the purpose is to keep them alive and out of the hospital...

Fair point. It also goes the other way though. The same folks who followed the CDC about masking, distancing etc the last year now no longer want to follow their guidance. They are angry the CDC dropped the mandate for vaccinated people and themselves don’t listen. Even while vaccinated they are still wearing a mask even thought the CDC says it’s not necessary.

You know what's funny?
What started as: 'Wear a mask! Protect each other from this virus! Keep your distance!' has seriously turned into: "Every man for himself" because there are a lot out there who don't care for their fellow man.

This realization made me sad.
The unvaccinated may have something to do with that...

However, I do fear that the vaccinated will soon be pitted against the unvaccinated to where it may become a bit ugly. We have enough divisiveness...but, it is hard not to be angry at times with those that are unvaccinated for the very reasons we are seeing today. It is a struggle...

I am vaccinated and still wearing a mask, because I want to help both protect myself from that 2-5% chance of getting sick and protecting the unvaccinated who I could potentially transmit it to.

The very people we need to get vaccinated who will not are simple minded. That is my entire point. The people who are willing to do the right thing are all already vaccinated.

This exactly.

Masks are not a long term solution unless they're permanent. Numbers will go down and right back up again when a mandate is lifted. Why? Because the same people still won't be vaccinated and will still abuse the (not working) honor system. We need real solutions, not lazy patch work, IMO. People who have not already been vaccinated need to get it. We need a better push.

Only simple minded individuals are going to come to that conclusion. Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realize that layers of protection in almost aspect of life are better than a single layer. Doesn't matter if we are talking home security or vaccinations.

It also needs to be understood that vaccinated individuals are still able to pass on the virus, which masks can go some way to reducing.

I just don't see the need to make it one or the other. Why can't we just do everything humanly possible to get this over with. And if that means being uncomfortable at the Magic Kingdom, tough.
And anyone with an ounce of common sense can determine when layers of protection are superfluous. Wearing a seatbelt while driving a car is common sense. Wearing a seatbelt and wearing bubble wrap and a flak jacket is superfluous. Getting the vaccine is common sense. Getting the vaccine and wearing a mask is superfluous. If Disney reinstates the mask mandates I’ll cancel my trip for the 4th time in the last 2 years and I won’t be alone.

Stop with your rational and level headed posts. There’s no room for that here;););)
