Hopefully this means that Disney will finally realize that maybe making a million live action remakes of their animated films isn't the best idea.
Then again, Aladdin and The Lion King are bound to be hits, so...
I'm wondering if Aladdin will meet expectations. Originally they were hoping it would do as well as BatB, but the projected opening weekend is currently well below that (even counting the holiday Monday).
Beauty and the Beast (3-day opening weekend): $174 million
Aladdin (4-day opening weekend projection): up to $115 million
Wouldn't be surprised if, like Dumbo, it comes below that. They're running out of time to hype it & turn around opinions from the first trailer.
If Lion King doesn't do as expected you can bet Disney will slam the breaks on these remakes, at least the ones not in production like Mulan.
