Disney looking at another island in the Bahamas

Well the ships are part of the parks and resorts division. Also it seems like there is acu ally quite a bit going on at WDW all the time.
-The MK just got a huge rebuild of fantasyland and its hub.
- DAK has a whole new land being built and several Restauarant added or updated as well as new nighttime offerings and another one on its way.
- Hollywood studios is in the midst of a complete overhual
- Epcot got a refreshed new ride that is more popular than what it replaced and is in the middle of what could be the addition of new attractions
-DTD got a whole new look and upgrade and rede dictated as Disney Springs

All this while it is being reported that the smaller resort in Anaheim is actually seeing an increase in revenue while WDW is staying stagnant.

Can't more that to Anaheim that hasn't seen any new attractions in several years, Paris also has seen much development, Hong Kong only got a Star Wars overlay and we won't count Tokyo since that is run by another corporation.

I think it's safe that WDW is not being ignored it is just a bigger resort that makes its size difficult to maintain and needs constant work
The investment in the parks is welcomed, but insufficient because of years of neglect. If this was all going on and the parks were regularly being updated then it would be more significant.

The Magic Kingdom needs more capacity in Adventureland/Frontierland and Tomorrowland needs to be overhauled.

Epcot needs to see overhauls to several Future World pavilions (Looks like at least one is in the works with Guardians).

Hollywood Studios is moving in the right direction with what's been announced (Star Wars, Toy Story) and what's been rumored (additional E-ticket). However, at least one of the larger scale projects should have been done 5 years ago.

Animal Kingdom is moving in the right direction, but even after Avatar it will be anywhere between 1-3 rides short.

A sweet itinerary would be if the new island was built with zip lines etc. You could skip Nassau, and go to CC and the new one with a day at sea.
I actually could kind of see this. For the 3/4 night cruises. But maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that would be geared toward a very specific segment- the Disney fanatics only.

A cruise ship is a destination, but how many frequent cruisers really want to go to 2 Disney Islands in the Bahamas? I think DCL Dream fans would, but is that enough? There's so many islands to choose from, why not choose another country? They could still offer a 5 night with 2 Disney islands and it would be a little more attractive.

I can't speak for everyone, but 2 Disney islands or even just 2 private islands would be just dandy for me.

I have done 3 Disney cruises so far and while I have enjoyed my excursions in other countries, Castaway Cay has always been the highlight.

Specific destinations like the Tulum ruins or even Atlantis can't really be replicated, but my favorite activities, snorkeling, hiking, zip lining, kayaking, etc, all can be and doing those activities on a private island are so much easier and care free.

Our 4th DCL cruise has been booked for 2017 and it has stops in Nassau and double dips in Castaway Cay. We have been t Nassau several times and at most, might tour Atlantis. They will be dragging me off the island both days we are at Castaway Cay.

I was part (by "part" I mean waiting for months in anticipation and following the platinum people's quotes the day before and hoping to book an 11 night Northern Europe) of the Summer '17 itinerary release day madness.
I realize people were going crazy over the CC double dip, and know that they sold quickly. So I'm not at all downplaying the love people have towards it.

My favorite thing about a cruise line having a "private island" is that it's the only beach day that I have. In the other stops I want to explore, so it's nice to have a break and not be harassed by people trying to sell you something lol.

I just feel like a new place in Haiti or the DR would be a better option. I really do think they will have to add the zipling, larger waterpark, etc if there is a new island, or even to Castaway Cay if not.

I have extremely high expectations for Castaway Cay this December. I've never heard anything but great things about it. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the water temps. I never swim in SoFla or the Bahamas that time of year (sans wetsuit), but I know my kid will make me be in the water most of the day.lol

Regarding Atlantis- I was going annually since 2002/3, and it's just grown and grown. Right now I'm currently aggravated with them, mainly because I think the day passes have gotten out of control and I'm sick of the crowds. But that's another subject.

Edit- I do want to add that my thoughts on the parks are completely different. Even though I would like to see DCL add a little more adrenaline into their ships, I don't want to see big roller coasters at WDW. Right now DCL fits us best for this year, like I said previously though, I don't know if it will be the best fit in the Fall of 2017. I wouldn't cancel a WDW trip for a week at Universal- uni/IoA would be a day or two. But I may cancel DCL for Royal Caribbean. I don't know if that makes sense, but it does in my head lol.

When will you be in Castaway Cay?

Yeah...that is going to be a bit harsh. We did a January cruise and the water was just above Florida fresh water springs temperature.

You got use to it, but once you got out, you did not want to get back in. I would have given my eye teeth for a shorty wetsuit or even a vest.

Seriously, I have considered bringing a shorty with me. I decided against it because I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. I'm frightened though!lol

This is a weird cruise for me because of the Orlando portion. It's our first time on DCL so I'm signed up in a FE group. The groups were so big that a couple of months ago I backed out of the one I was in (how do people manage luggage space with 75+ gifts???) Luckily there are now 10 cabin groups, a little less than 50 people in mine I think. Still a luggage issue, as well as a wardrobe issue since it will be cold in Orlando. I've been debating either shipping clothes to the Contemporary ahead of time, someone here also gave me very helpful info on shipping FE gifts to the port ahead of time as well. I was already planning on shipping our Elf on the Shelf anyway, so that may be the best route. We'll see. Maybe I can squeeze all of the clothes in and just bring 4 suitcases instead. In my perfect world Orlando will have a repeat of 2015 and I won't need winter clothes :)

You will stick out with the shorty. You will be the only one not wrapped in a silver blanket trying to recover from mild hypothermia.:)

The travel agent I worked for had the best advice regarding packing for the cruise.

Get all the clothes together that you will think you will need. Now cut it in half.

About the only thing you need is what ever formal attire you have. Thanks to an on board laundromat you can really cut down on everything else.

My wife and daughter did not touch half of what they packed on our 7 day cruise.

Ha ha my realtor gave me the exact same advice re my house hunting list when we moved here.lol

Every single time I go out of town I say that I won't overpack. Every single time I still overpack. Maybe the FE will make me be a little more strict. Especially with shoes.lol. For the cruise I'm planning on bringing several cardigans bc I've read that the restaurants are freezing.

The cruise section here is very quiet..I'm an over planner/need to know everything type of person by nature so I'm saving all advice whenever I get it! For pirate night- I'm really leaning towards just purchasing my son's costume at the BBB- planning on an appt there. That should help save a lot of space too I think. I also wish that I could just rent a tux for him onboard, but I didn't see that option. Have you done either of those?

I have not, but the BBB is an option quite a few people choose. I am lucky that we drive down if we dress for pirate night as we tend to go just a tad overboard.

I looked at suit rentals for myself on the last cruise, but went with my own suit as the options were pretty limited.

#Goals :). LOVE IT!!! Great photo and GREAT costumes!!!! Did you purchase them at a Halloween shop or order online?

I hate to spend the money buying a tux for my son. He will only wear it that one time, and I really do want a tux over a suit because I think it's a great opportunity for us to have a "fancy night". Plus- I really want the resulting photos.lol

The two the right are some friends of ours from Jersey and those were store bought as was my youngest daughter's who is on the lower left. My wife and older daughter's dresses were hand made from a seamstress we found on e-bay and mine was hand made by your's truly. The only thing I did not make were the boots. There were leftovers from the filming of POTC 2 and 3 that the company that made them sold online and I snagged a pair.

You should be able to rent a tux for him at any formal wear shop. The rub is you have to pack it.

I feel pretty stupid.. Deleted and actually edited my post shortly after I wrote it. I had looked at the pic on my phone without clicking on it, and then once I got back to my computer I immediately noticed that the "boy" was in fact a "girl"lol. Sorry!

Great job on your costume! Is it possible to pm me the name of the seamstress?

The downside to renting the tux is that it's a 15 day trip, I haven't priced that out, maybe it's not as bad as I think. I'd rather not deal with it in my luggage though.

I think you missed the entire point of what I was saying, and the difference between a week cruise vacay vs a week park vacay. Big hint- I can choose almost any cruise line and still go to the same countries that I wish to visit regardless of if I choose DCL or someone else, but I can't go to Universal and meet Elsa or Kylo Ren.

Unfortunately, I don't have any cute little memes to respond with, so I'll just give up now.lol
Hate to break it to you but the island excursions are the small part of the cruise, it's the ships themselves and what they offer that draws people in. Disney is selling Mickey Mouse on a boat just as they are competing with Universal and selling Mickey Mouse on land.

It's ok you didn't "break" anything to me. I think we're in total agreement. That's pretty much what I've been saying this entire thread lol. I think there are ships that are more attractive than DCL ships right now. Because of the ships themselves, and what is offered on them activity wise.

I don't think Universal is as much competition to WDW in the baby/pre school/pre k/k/etc market for a week long vacation. Especially when Universal is in a similar price range as WDW. But a lot of cruises are significantly (thousands) less than DCL.

No worries.

I will see if I can find it but it was quite some time ago. The little girl making the funny face will be a sophomore in high-school next year.:)

Question Disney cruise people, do you have to pay separately for the all the activities on Disney's island? Disney cruises are way up there price wise and I'm wonder what exactly do you get that the other cruise lines charge for?

I went about 6 weeks ago on a 8 night cruise to Aruba, Bonaire, Grand Turk. It was $3200 on Canaveral cruises when it was all said and done. That's including rent a Jeep at Aruba. I'm just not seeing the bang for the buck on DCL?
Bonaire is one of the few islands that I've never been to. Hopefully someday.

From what I've noticed since booking- no extra cost for soda. That's about it.

Use of the beach, the facilities (eg slides, snorkeling lagoon, etc), food and non-alcoholic drinks are all free.

Activities like parasailing, jet ski, string ray encounter, etc cost extra.
