when my daughter was 15 or 16 my son had left home and she decided to take over his room. we redid it from the floor up with the idea based on the question what would captain jack sparrows "cabin" look like. we focused on an adult poc feel and used elements from the ride and movie (black pearl was the only one out at the time). we did dark wood floor, walls a brick red/maroon, we painted an old wood mirror gold and put multi colored jewels around it, painted some inexpensive plates gold, added lots of beads, a barrel as a night stand, and model ships. there are things like an anchor on the wall, a compass, and ships bell for decorations. we used jewel tones for bedding/curtains, and some jewel toned fabric we had from a party that we used to cover her shelves... we used a lot of different photo frames and put up a few photos from the movie that we took off the internet, one of captain hook (who in miniature is also on one of the boats), a few of maps, candles in silver gothic looking candleabras, a silver bowl with fake green apples (a nod to barbosa's obsession with the apples), we have a some whimsical things like a stuffed dog with the keys and a poc flag we got outside the ride. there's a gold plaque on her bedroom door that says captains quarters and a 5 foot tall dirty looking skeleton hanging from her 4 poster bed...he's wearing a prom dress, jewels, a crown, and has a sword sticking out of his middle. we had a blast doing it and would do it again no question. it's taken a bit of a beating over the years (she's had it that way for about 6 years) and i can't seem to find the photos from when we first did the room and it looked its best. we used a lot of things we already had and revamped them like we had a statue of a wolf i think it was so we spray painted it gold...kind of with the idea of the huge pile of treasure on the island in the first movie.
