Goodbye, Play Sets... Hello, Story Mode
With this new version of Disney Infinity, many series staples were changed, including the physical aspect of the game. Play Sets, Power Discs, and physical characters were all scrapped and replaced entirely with digital, in-game alternatives.
Instead of Play Sets, Disney Infinity has Story Mode. Story Mode takes you, the player, through various Disney worlds (pun intended) as you play through the game. Story Mode combines the crazy, crossover-intensive style of Toy Box gameplay with the organized, mission-based Play Sets. In Story Mode, players Journey Into their favorite Disney franchise locations, from Neverland to New York. It is very open world, but also has linear aspects baked into it.
As always with Disney Infinity games, Imagination plays a key part in the storyline. In this version of the game, however, the Disney Parks also play a role. While many Easter eggs and set pieces related to the parks could be found in the previous games, from Autopia cars to the Matterhorn, this game doubles down on park cameos.
I’ll be detailing the locations and storyline of Story Mode once we’ve finished the overview of the game. In the meantime, look closely at this message to get a clue at what surprise Disney Character will play a main part in Disney Infinity’s Story Mode.
