Disney in Vegas?

So I was talking to a friend today and we were talking about why Disney has never thought about opening a Restort in Vegas. Vegas has become more family friendly and I think it would be cool if Disney owned a Restort in Vegas. Any thoughts from all of you?

Well, they purposely avoided putting a casino in the Disney Cruise Ships, so I am somewhat doubtful that Disney would put one in a resort (and without one, it would seriously hurt them in that town).

While Vegas has become more family friendly, I don't think Disney would be right for Vegas (after all, their Disney Store closed in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace). Interesting idea, but I don't think the visitors to Vegas would go for it.

Vegas is horrible for kids. Why do you think all of the casino's are abandoning the attractions for kids. If teaching your kid to have a gambling addiction isn't bad enough, the cardboard cutouts of naked women being passed out while you walk along the strip is. I can see it now, Disney's Sin City :goodnevil

Vegas tried the "Family Friendly Enviorment" in the late 80's early 90's. It basically failed. They went back to(which they should have never left)the adult weekend getaway. PLEASE LEAVE THE KIDS WITH GRANDMA!!!!!!

While not a theme park, per se, Disney was involved (and for a time owned a part of ) the New York, New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The property is now owned by MGM Mirage (as are about half of the casinos on the strip).

As a previous poster said, Vegas is becoming LESS family friendly. In the late 80's early 90's there was a move towards family friendly stuff and attractions for kids. If you look now, the resorts are replacing kids stuff with adult stuff. Luxor has just removed the video arcade and is shutting down the Imax theater.

There is very limited family stuff to do there (which is why I'm perplexed when I see so many people bring kids with them).

From my understanding Disney has looked into the Vegas market from several different angles (theme park, casino, theatre, etc) all of which came up bust. When the whole family friendly add campaign bombed it was pretty much the last nail in the coffin. Disney simply does not feel that it would be in their best interest to have their name directly associated with sin city type entertainment. At most I could see them investing in it from the sidelines simply for the almost guaranteed return but I can not see them putting their name on anything in Vegas.

I am sure they would make a fortune in the Vegas market, but many would feel Disney would lose whatever family values they have left.

It didn't fail...nothing could be further from the truth. Las Vegas morphs and changes with the times. Those kids that went with their parents back in the 90's are now hip party animals in their 20's. Vages, much like Disney, knows who their target audience is.

It will once again move away form the adult oriented theme in time and change to something else. And then it will change again after that.

Sounds a little to much like tobacco companies getting kids to smoke so they have a customer for life. However shortened that life may be.

Disney has never owned a part of New York New York! It was created by Mandalay Resort holdings company and was recently sold to MGM Mirage holdings!

Disney in Vegas is a bad idea. The Issue with Vegas is that the Days really don't start till the sun starts to go down. Vegas did try to go family friendly in the late 90's and it failed. The whole base for vegas exsitence is Money, alcohol, and Nightlife. Like an early poster said, disney went as far as not putting a casino on the cruise ships to keep them more family friendly. They were willing to part with that customer base where gambling came first, because the knew the could own the familly base.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
It'd be about the same if Disney put Mickey Mouse on a pack of cigarettes or in a Grand Theft Auto game. Despite what Vegas may have been trying at one point, it simply will never be a family friendly destination.

What's a Restort?

Like others, I don't think it'd work at all. Disney is family...Vegas is not. Besides, the Excalibur already looks like a Disney castle anyways!

Uh, no. New York, New York was, originally a 50/50 venture of MGM Grand (now part of MGM Mirage Mandalay whatever it's called) and Primmadonna Resorts (also now a part of MGM Mirage Mandalay...)

There is family stuff there, but it isn't the marketing focus anymore. My 4 year old son loved Veags. He liked the lights and flashy things. He liked the Circus acts and rides at Circus Circus. He liked hiking in Red Rock Canyon. And liked eating in restaurants where he could hear and see slot machines.

I'm sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with your Excalibur comment (I'm sure you were joking). The Excalibur is one of the ugliest hotels I have ever seen, and it doesn't look like a Disney castle at all. It looks like a giant motel decorated with some Medieval props from Party City.

There are some incredibly beautiful hotels in Vegas (Belaggio), amazingly themed hotels (Venetian), and hotels with amenities that strongly appeal to kids (Mandalay Bay - shark reef exhibit and a wave pool/lazy river complex). However, I agree with the posters that think Disney should stay out of Vegas. There's too many bad influences in the city, and I remember seeing ography on the streets as soon as I took my first steps on the Strip.

i think they considered it but it got a nay. I think it would be nice because there is nothing for kids and teens to do. when i go i just swim , go to some shows, and shop, and keep repeating until we leave. it gets old after a while. sometimes i get so bored my friends and i drive to disneyland or somewhere in california just because. i love random road trips while on vacation
