Disney in Macy's

So I'm sitting here watching the parade, wondering why Disney doesn't take better advantage of this each year? I mean, sure we had Miley and inflatable Bolt, but why don't they send a float in with the Fab 5 or some of the princesses (NOT pushing a new Disney superstar, just the characters!) ? Even the history channel has a float!! Why can't Disney, who has just a little bit of experience with making floats, get something put together for this?? And they've already got some performers working at WoD out there, so they wouldn't have to send too many people out there.... Especially now with the new celebration they're pumping, this seems like it would have been a great opportunity :confused:

Edit: did some searching to see if I had just missed something, and found youtube of the parade in 2005..... bawled my eyes out!!!!

because they only can get so much into the parade...

they had miley, a baloon, and the muppets.. not to mention mary poppins (or was it mermaid?)

Disney = ABC
Macy's = NBC
:shrug:
That doesn't matter... They do stuff on each other all the time, it's a way of marketing what they are doing. think of it a a commercial. The What will you celebrate and such already has the parade that's going to finish taping next weekend for ABC and nothing but Disney really.

The last time they did anything with many characters was during 2005 HCOE's Celebration. Right behind the Chicken Little balloon for the 50th anniversary of Disneyland But more for WDW. They had a riverboat float with all the characters just like Fantasmic and had Leaane Rhymes sing the theme of HCOE "Remember When" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g5j6vmMkgU

But, I concur..They should have had something for WWYC since it seems to be another big Promo they are trying to get people to get to the resort. And it would have been nice to have seen who sang "It's The Time of Your Life"..That way we all don't have to ask who sang it and finnally say..."Ah..So that's who sang it!"

You're right about how they should have a float for WDW like they did in 2005. But they did have a ton of Muppets on several different floats.

One thing that I never understood is why is every Muppet movie on NBC instead of ABC? Such as the new Muppet Christmas movie on Dec 17th on NBC. And I believe last year and in years past all the made for TV Muppets movies were all on NBC.

Ya, just found that on youtube- absolutely amazing!!!.... But I wish they'd make something like that (even if on a smaller scale) a staple of the parade- not just when they're pushing a promo. I mean, haven't we had the Ecko Rhino Mountain float for the past few years?? And I'd rather see them than Muppets or Miley

The Disney characters were in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade today. :)

And for Macy's, I also thought they should've had Bolt, Mittens and Rhino actually appearing in the parade instead of the inflatables.

I didn't get a chance to see the whole parade since I didn't wake up in time; thanks to working at the Disney Store till 3 am. Disney did have a new Buzz balloon, Kermit balloon, Kermit singing, the Bolt float, and Little Mermaid Broadway show performance.

Considering families watch the parade, Disney probably should throw their name out there more. Where was Wall-E? The DVD just came out and could have used some good promotion. Plus Mickey just celebrated his 80th birthday. Maybe there will be a good Disney float in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Happy Turkey Day

Not as weird as a few years back in Disney's Hollywood Studios. abc were showing the Grinch as part of their Holiday lineup and had posters all over DHS that year, mean while a few miles down the road Universal Orlando Resort had the Grinch all over their parks with a parade aswell.:drevil:

I have to say it was still fun to watch today. The new Buzz ballon was great & even with Miley liping it I am glad Bolt,Mittens,& Rhino were there in some form. OT: A updated note on the 2009 theme "Celebrate You" (thats the official title) since Cmdr Crimson mentioned it. This year in the Disneyland portion of the Christmas parade Corbin Bleu will be performing the song. Obviously this is not who sang it in the ads but it might be the version we can expect on a album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvCMEOetnPQ

I'm glad I set my computer to record the Philly Parade before I left school to go back home to NY. They store the floats for the parade on my college's campus and i saw the Disney float in there so I knew i needed to record it. I'll gonna check it out first thing when i get back.

Did anyone else catch the Pirate float? It was odd because it was a generic pirate float but the music that was playing was "A pirates life for me".

I'm not 100% sure, but I recall reading quite a few years back that the FCC requires the networks to bid on movie rights to prevent a monopolistic hording of programming. If ABC had made or financed the new muppet movie, then they could air without the bidding. Since it was produced by another arm of the Walt Disney Company, they had to bid like everyone else and clearly lost.
