Hey guys,
my family is planning a trip to Disney and luckily the only month that would have worked for all of us is August! I was looking for any good advice or tips for surviving the brutal August FL conditions.
Any tips would be appreciated!
Note: Everyone in our party is over 18 and legal to drink expect one

Thanks and have a magical day :)

When you go in August will be critical.

The first 2 weeks will be crowded and you will probably run into some of the infamous tour groups.

The crowds will begin to wain as school is starting up and the tour groups are going home during the final 2 weeks.

The heat will be brutal no matter when you are there. Dress lightly, hydrate and do your best to be inside or underwater from about 1-4 PM.

Goop up with sunscreen. Wear a baseball cap to protect your head. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Dress smartly (it's Orlando, not Anchorage). Drink H2O even when you don't feel thirsty. Have lots of Dole Whip Floats and Auntie Gravities smoothies in the MK. Have lots of Grand Marnier Orange Slushies, beer and margaritas in Epcot. Feel the wonderful rush of air conditioning as you enter the attractions. Smile. Enjoy the beauty of the parks and the palm trees against the blue sky. Cry as you leave on the 11th. We'll cry as we arrive on the 13th.

You're not going to like this but... Avoid alcohol during the day. It dehydrates you and makes you more prone to heatstroke. Bring cooling towels. Take lots of water breaks. You can get free ice water from any quick service spot in Disney World -- take advantage of it! Bring Emergen-C packets to dump in your ice water, especially if you drank the night before. It'll help rehydrate you and keep your electrolytes balanced. Try to alternate air-conditioned/indoor attractions with outdoor attractions. And take it slow, enjoy the journey as well as the destination! There are so many magical details that people tend to miss when they are rushing from one attraction to the next. Enjoy!

Thank you everybody! Well try to get out as early as possible and take a break and go back to our hotel in the afternoon, swim for a while then come back to the park in the Evening (hopefully make use of the extra hour) I'm only 21 so I'm a night owl anyways :p I also just heard about the disaster that is the tour groups but I'll try to stay positive and make the most out of my magical vacation!
Well definatly bring water and lots of sunscreen!
Are those cups you can refill any good? Are they worth it?
Thanks again for all your kind advice!

Water, water, water and more water. Once you're done with that have some more water. After that sunscreen and a hat very good choices. IF you drink alcohol make sure you follow it up with some...you guessed it, water. Pools during the day or inside stores shopping are good plans. Tour groups are hit and miss depending on what park your in but go in knowing that first and they are tolerable. (For the most part) Plenty of opportunity to have fun the first few weeks of August. :)

Thanks! We're staying at art of animation! We didn't do the dining plan which probably was a mistake so I'm guessing we'd need to get a head start on breakfast which won't be a problem because we're getting up early but I've heard it's a zoo their in the morning

That's true our travel agent made it sound like a waste. She said a snack is like one scoop of popcorn. I heard that you can trade your snacks in for meals and it actually seems like a better idea considering the prices of food.

We always go in August. We love this time of year because the crowds are low. The weather can be hot, but it is August. We have been in May and def prefer June. Everyone thinks August is like death, but it's not.you get a rain shower or too, but nothing too crazy. Get the dining plan if you can, it is worth it. Stay hydrated and take breaks. Have a great trip!!!!

Water, Sunscreen, Hat, sunglasses, more water lol! Breaks in the afternoon and also, PONCHOS because August has the afternoon/early evening thunderstorm or two that last about 45 mins or so and then go away, but it's best to be prepared for those. Most of all, have fun!

You cannot trade snack credits for dining credits (quick/table service). It sounds like the travel agent isn't too familiar with Disney snacks. Many items that qualify for snack credits are large enough to be a light meal! :p

Frosty Towels!! Available in resort gift shop coolers or from Amazon. They are moist cooling towels. The frogtog kind don't work well because humidity is high. The Frosty Towels also have lemongrass oil which is a natural bug repellent. These are the only way I can spend the entire month of August in the parks.

Thank you for the article Master Yoda and thanks everybody else! I'll have to look for a frosty towel they sound like a great idea on a hot August day in Flordia ;)
Keeping cool and out of the sun as much as possible is key especially because someone in our party is sensitive to the sun.
We'll be drinking plently of water, and finding ways to stay cool.
