Hello all, thinking about going to Disney maybe the first week in August and was wondering what to expect for weather, crowds, and anything else. Thanks for any tips or help!

You're going to have a blast! It is hot, but A LOT of stuff at Disney is inside. You'll live through the heat. lol... Take pool breaks in the afternoon and you will be fine. If you don't take breaks in the afternoon plan to watch a show or do something inside in the afternoons... The crowds will be alright, but I would definitely plan to utilize the fastpasses and make sure you know you won't be able to do everything there is to do.

But you will have fun regardless of the weather. Enjoy!

We went end of July/beginning of August in 2013......HOT!! Grossly humid....take changes of clothes for each day. We went back mid-day each day to change ALL of our clothes (right down to underwear) because we were drenched with sweat! It is do-able but def take extra clothes and stay hydrated!

From about mid August on the crowds start to slow down. We went from the 14-17 two years ago for my son's birthday and we'll be going from the 17-20 this year. When we went two years ago the crowds were very manageable. Weather wise it will be hot and humid. We're locals so we can tolerate it more. No, even we don't get used to it. This is coming from someone that sometimes has to be outside of work.

I agree with @englanddg about the crowd level in August. It goes down bit in the 2nd half of the month but not by much. But the weather is still hot as blazes. And the kicker....it gets even hotter and more humid in September. After promising myself that I would never do Disney in the summer again, my brother in law convinced us to go in September..."lower crowds and better weather" he said. WRONG! I think that September weather is hotter and more humid than August if that is at all possible. And during the weekend, the crowds were way up in the MK especially. During the week days, it was a walk onto most rides and a manageable wait for the others. So...it's a trade off. If you can handle the heat and humidity, I would go in September when the low crowds make the weather more bearable. Have a Magical Trip no matter when you go. :cat:

The weather doesn't really change until we get into October. Early October can still be warm, but by the time you get to the end of the month the summer weather pattern is over. The humidity has dropped making it much more comfortable and the thunderstorms aren't as prevalent. MK crowds will grow for the weekends. Remember that for us Florida residents, Disney is a few hours away. We'll take our kids for the weekend and MK will be the park that everyone will go to.

I think so much of this depends on you. What are your heat and crowd tolerances? We went in August in 2011 and had no complaints. The crowds weren't bad and the heat and humidity didn't bother us. Of course, I've lived in FL and currently live in an area with comparable temps and humidity. i.e. are you more of a winter climate person who overheats in the low to mid 80s or are you acclimated to summer temps and don't start feeling the burn until the upper 90s with max humidity?

All in all...if you dress smartly, hydrate, and plan your days well...it's an awesome time to go. Parks are open late, it's the perfect trip time to allow for dips in the pool, and treats like Dole Whips and Mickey Premium Bars seems to go best with summer temps. :)

Florida weather is unpredictable. Historically the average morning lows are low 50's and afternoon highs are mid 70's. Now if there hasn't been a front that has passed through in a bit it could be warmer. If we get a front it could depend on how strong. Typically it will drop into the 40's but it warms up just fine by mid afternoon. If we get an arctic front then it can dip into the 30's and those days are definitely cold by our standards. Cold fronts only last a few days at most and it goes back to seasonal. You'll just have to check as yo get closer and see what the forecast is calling for.

Yes, it is wickedly hot and humid the first part of August with crowd levels high, but certainly not holiday time high. If you know all of that going in you are more prepared than 75% of other people who go during that time. Make the most of your trip knowing the heat and crowds will be higher. Drink plenty of water and plan to take some inside breaks.

We go to wdw or universal almost every august, toward the end of the month. This year 19-22.

You have to be ok with the heat and humidity. That said, there are many days where it is actually hotter in Boston than in Florida when we are there as Boston can be hot and humid in the summer too! The difference is everywhere in Florida have great ACs.

The crowds are decent by the end of the month. Crowded, but isn't it always...

Indeed last week was hotter here in Boston then FLA, yet I will say this. Standing in line for 40 minutes being crowded is rather difficult in high heat/high humidity. There's something to be said about being in a concrete jungle being crushed with a ton of people when its extremely hot.

My kids (now age 9) did not fair too well when we were in Epcot a couple of years ago because of the heat.

Spring Break
I think (or rather I hope) because spring break is different for many school systems that the crowds may be a bit more manageable, that is July and part of August all kids are out of school and adults typically plan a vacation. College has spring break in March (AFAIK), and then different schools such as high school, middle school, etc are off during various weeks in April. My kids school system is off later in April and looking at the crowd calendar, it appears to be at a time where its less crushingly busy.

As everyone who knows me tells me, I'm weird because I LOVE the humidity. The only thing I know about Disney and weather is that once you are home after the trip remembering how incredible it was, it doesn't matter.

Well, to play devils advocate, in different school systems go back to school at differnt times in august. We go back in September. Friends down south are back the first week of august. Every area is different.

I can tell you over the past two weeks we've had 3-4 days in a row of heat advisories. Temperatures in the upper 90s, but with the heat index (and that dang Florida humidity), temperatures in the 105-110 range. And I live in North Florida, which is usually 5 degrees cooler than Central Florida.

Went once in August. Will never again. Instead, we are going on a cruise in August.

I would bring a jacket and a pair of long pants and long sleeve shirt. The coldest months in Florida are typically December-early February. We visited in February 2013 and the temperature at night was in the upper 20s/low 30s. And for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend last year (and my particular race), the low was in the upper 20s. The weather in Florida late winter/early spring can fluctuate 10-20 degrees in one day. I've gone in late April and it's been windy in the upper 60s and the next year, in the 80s.

Thanks. That's really good to know. I think the plan is to be ready for anything and to check out the weather the week prior. I usually start packing a month before a trip, but I suppose I won't be able to this time around. lol
