Hello All! We are cruising for the first time in Sept. we are not big Credit Card fans. Can we use Gift Cards to pay for drinks and things on board instead of charging to the room? Or, can you put money on the room cards like a credit? Just trying to figure out the best way to do this. Thanks in advance for all your advice!

You can put Disney gift cards or even cash on your onboard account. You won't need to carry them around on the ship, just put them on your account. Any extra money you spend onboard is charged to that account.

The short answer is no to this part. All your purchases on board are charged to your stateroom account. So carrying a gift card to the bar will not help you, as far as I know.

You can, however, put cash or traveler's checks or whatever in your stateroom account at the start of your cruise as a credit. Then when drinks, tips or shore excursions are charged to the account, it will simply be deducted from the total credit.

What they said! Just go to Guest Services onboard the ship and have those gift cards loaded to your shipboard account. Hang onto your gift cards, tho! The night before debarkation you can have any credits left on your shipboard account put back on a gift card for next time. That's the easiest way to do it.

You can pay for some things onboard like in the shops with a gift card. We did this last September on the Dream when I bought my DCL Dooney. I don't know if all the bars and other smaller setups like the little spot to buy packaged snacks and/or beverages outside the theater are equiped for gift cards. They do all take the Key to the World card so that's why I say it's prob'ly easiest to load the funds to the shipboard account asap. In the case of kids with spending money, our teen boys had cash & gift cards to spend. They could use gift cards in the shops. If they wanted something via their hard-earned cash they needed to get the hubby or me, have us make the purchase via our KttW card, then take the cash to Guest Services to replace on our account. We didn't give the boys charging priviledges just because we worry that the youngest will misplace his key and someone will have a ball on our tab. o_O
