Disney Genie/Genie+ On Their Way to Anaheim

Touring Plans says Monday will be an 8/10 (where 10/10 is worst case)
A lot of their algorithm relies on historical data. While I'm sure they've done some adjusting since the reopening, there hasn't been a full year yet of a "reservation system" at Disneyland to know for sure what crowds will be like. The reservation system shifted the paradigm on crowd levels.

To me, a 10/10 is when the park is so full they stop letting people in and you can't walk anywhere without bumping shoulders and Space Mountain has a 180 minute+ wait. Since the reservation system came into play, I don't think Disneyland has ever filled up past 65-75% of "full" capacity, so I don't see actual crowd levels getting past 7/10 in reality.

I've gone 2 or 3 times over Thanksgiving week and this past one with the reservation system was nowhere near the crowd levels I've experienced previous times (pre-covid).

There haven't even been 3 months of Genie+ yet and since there is no more free Fastpass the standby levels and wait times will also be somewhat different than pre-covid.

So today is the first time that I’ve seen ILLs for RSR and SM:WS at a different price point.

RSR is $15 today and WS is $12.

Uh oh looks like the parks are getting busier and/or demand has gone up.

Edit: are you saying prices went up or down? When I last used it I believe RSR and WS were both $10

Historically RSR and WS have had the same ILL price as each other. Today is the first time I’ve seen the price for one differ from the other. Today WS is $12 while RSR is $15.

I looked further into it using historical data on Thrill-Data. The first time that RSR and WS had different prices from each other was on 2/18/2022, with WS at $10 but RSR at $12.

On 2/20/2022 they had WS as more expensive at $15, while RSR was $12.

Anyhow…. seems like they are doing some price testing… probably to figure out which of the two attractions people will pay more for.

Has anyone ever noticed if ILL prices have changed mid-day?
They don’t, at least not yet. I’d be surprised if they did that anytime soon though, as it is far more difficult to engineer / build / operate a system that works that way. You would either need to build a real-time “surge pricing” engine that would automatically adjust pricing based on demand during the day, or have employees manually monitor ILL demand during the day and adjust prices as needed.

Disneyland President Ken Potrock on Genie+ in a Q&A with OCR -

"Q. What has been the guest reaction to Genie+ and Lightning Lanes?

A. It’s been pretty extraordinary. We’re getting very high take rates. A large percentage of the guests are wanting to use it. One of the things that we’re finding is that those that use it are feeling that their experience was better and that they had an opportunity to do everything that they wanted to do. That’s really important.

At the same time, we can’t forget about guests that aren’t wanting to use it. We’re working very hard to improve the Genie service, which is the free service that helps navigate people through the park more effectively and efficiently. That’s going to be very valuable as well. Ultimately, all boats need to rise."

Stupid OC Register always butchering those quotes. I found the full, unedited response from Disneyland President Ken Potrock on Genie+ in a Q&A with OCR -

"Q. What has been the guest reaction to Genie+ and Lightning Lanes?

A. It’s been pretty extraordinary. We’re getting very high take rates, at least, among guests not associated with the WDWMagic forums. It's funny, you'd be surprised at just how large a percentage of guests are wanting to just give us extra money for things that were originally free. One of the things that we’re finding is that those that use it are feeling that their experience was better and that they had an opportunity to do everything that they wanted to do. That’s really important. I mean, they could have done it for free before with FastPass, but we've found that guests really don't mind paying a bit extra if there's even the smallest perception that they're benefiting from it somehow.

At the same time, we can’t forget about guests that aren’t wanting to use it, especially those users of the WDWMagic forums. We’re working very hard to improve the Genie service, which is the free service that helps navigate people through the park more effectively and efficiently, so long as they're glued to their cell phones all day. That’s going to be very valuable as well. Ultimately, it's all about that revenue stream. Water isn't free, and all boats need to rise."

How about everyone stop taking the Disney bait and do not purchase the genie + or additional individual ride passes? It's crazy how everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of paying extra money for a service that was free on top of ridiculous admission cost. Disney will just keep adding more cost on if us consumers keep buying into it!

I have no interest in purchasing Genie+ during our next trip. I can see it being “useful” for the out of town visiting family who has never been before and has limited time at the resort, but that’s not me.

I love the parks as much as anyone, but I draw the line at paying extra for something I can get for free.

Welcome to a capitalistic society where you have the freedom to choose to not pay for the very thing that others are willing to pay for. Also welcome to the Disney Parks, who has been slowing making you pay for more things as time went on since 1955.

Bottom line, if you don't like it then don't buy it and wait in standby like everyone else. Disney has no obligation to continue to offer a free FP service just because they may have previously.

I swear some of you sound like an ex who can't move on when the other party has already moved on and found a new beau.

This was already majorly discussed a few pages back. You can pretty much start here: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/disney-genie-genie-on-their-way-to-anaheim.974531/post-10162433

Not sounding like an ex at all....What I have an issue with is this sheep mentality of following along and accepting whatever Disney decides to do.
My family would go twice per year but have now cut it back to once because of all the price hikes.
You can continue to pay for genie+ while I wait on lines and enjoy the time with my family. And if a line gets too long I'll go to guest services and get comped a mutliexperience pass or two, like I did in Disneyland last week 😀
