Disney fires IT workers and replaces them with foreign workers

H1B (and or overseas wage slavery) isn't the only one.

Even if were John Doe American and he made the exact same gross pay, they'd be happy to do it.

7.65% of payroll saved for FICA
~3.5% for unemployment FUTA/SUTA contributions
No I-9 liability (falls on the contractor)
True at will employment as well as civil recourses against employees (again, contractors)
Financial reporting to the government drastically decreased administratively
No issues with time and wage disputes
No issues with termination disputes
No direct workplace liability
...I could keep going...

Resulting in a workforce which does not give a d--n about your company or it's goals.

I was referring to visualization of the simple math when working through an equation. Using the common core method, it will take you an hour just to finish unit conversions. I do have ability to visualize multidimensional equations/relationships but sadly have not found a place to apply it.

You need to work for GOOG - they are looking for people like you.

That's insane. However, the full professor that taught my Algebra 101 class couldn't figure out how to use my scientific calculator which I had to pull out to prove I was right and he was wrong (which I did in his office - I wanted to make a point, but I'm not THAT stupid). He couldn't understand a calculator that used RPN - Reverse Polish Notation. And before any of you slam me for making an ethnic joke - look it up. It's the method that HP calculators used for calculation.

RPN is a more than a little weird, It's also implemented in FORTH and the bootrom on Sun workstations have a FORTH implementation so if you need a mental snack and have a sun workstation have fun, It's also in Rocky Mountain Basic (to maintain some older instruments I have a HP 9000/300 workstation for use and retrocomputing fun!)

My first encounter with FORTH was on a MINC system running skinner boxes as part of a long term study of avian intelligence.

My goodness! It all sounds like a mess to me! Now there may be reasons for lawsuits? I just hope that Disney knows what they're doing.:(

Well they have probably advised those affected by the EO not to travel out of the county.
From what I understand the outside company doesn't pay them enough to travel and confiscates their passports. In my opinion - it is the 21st century version of indentured servitude.

Not sure what contracting companies your understanding comes from, but we have hundreds of IT contractors where I work. They are all paid a decent, not great salary and their passports are not confiscated. Many of them used to travel freely home at least once a year.

Disney hires those workers through a consulting company. If something changes with H1-B visas (nothing's happened so far), the consulting company will handle it.

All of the "replacements" should be home by now. The loophole Disney exploited is that they did not bring in replacements, they brought in people to document the jobs so that they could be taught to others overseas.

In other news, Disney has decided I no longer have family or friends. For $2 billion you'd think they can buy me some.

So what IT operations are handled overseas? Anything specific?

In my experience, things that get handled overseas are those tedious and/or highly repetitive processes, along with low-level problem resolution. Basically, anything that can be handled by following some documentation.

Exactly, though you can pay more and get higher levels of skill sets with greater problem solving capabilities.

It varies from general tech support, to load balances and server administration, to coding, to really anything IT.

The biggest challenge, especially when on 30-40 person incident bridge lines, is keeping straight who everyone is. The resources can be treated almost like commodities by the contactor itself, pulling the resources in and out without ever getting to develop any meaningful relationships with the folks. Incidentally, they never really learn your systems and really have zero skin the game from a quality standpoint.

That's not been my experience. The outsourcing companies hold the visa of the consultants. They are not free to leave the company, if they do, they have to go back. They aren't free to do much. Any disagreement and they go back and replaced with someone fresh from offshore.
